I recently had my eye screening done and was informed that I had been referred to the Bristol Eye Hospital, had my appointment there with a specialist last week. After 3 lots of eye drops including a yellow dye, my eyes were inspected with a blue or ultra violet light, having not been told by the screening people what the problem was, I asked the consultant who told me that I had a blocked blood vessel in the back of the eye, he then asked me if I was taking a daily Aspirin for blood thinning, my reply was yes, he said that the Aspirin had probably saved me from further problems as it appears that the blocked vessel is clearing, but if it had burst I could have lost sight in that eye. So it looks like I have seen some benefit of taking an Aspirin a day.
The eye hospital are going to check my eye every 2 months.

Dear John,

It is good that your specialist thought that asprin may have helped. I also take asprin daily and I believe that it has helped improve the flow of blood to my lower limbs.

Warmest Regards Dodger

Glad the eye problem is clearing up and it is being checked regulalrly for you.

Asprin has a lot of benefirts for many people, but for any one who is uncertain, it is sensible to ask your doctor or care team. We are all individuals. so the advice is different for everyone.

At no stage do I recall offering advice on Aspirin to anyone, I have just stated the facts as related to myself. I have been on Aspirin for 5 years on Doctors advice.

What were the reasons for your GP to prescribe aspirin? i asked her if i should start taking it as my father had a stroke years ago and with me now being a T2 i thought she would probably put me on aspirin but she said no so not sure how they come to that decision.

I had very high blood pressure prior to my diabetes and my doctor prescribed Lisinopril and Aspirin to control the blood pressure.

I've been trying to wind down the number of tablets I take and next on my list was to be aspirin, with the information that is currently in the public domain questioning it's merits.

My heart and circulation is and always has been good, I can't recall if I was put on it as prevention, because that was the in thing at the time or if it was to do with the thought I had angina, later discovered to be autonomic neuropathy. As such I am on them to no perceived advantage to my heart.

However, considering I have glaucoma in one eye, I wonder now with your experience John if I'm not better sticking to my little aspirin each morning?

I people didn't have different opinions my choices would be so much easier 🙄

I take an aspirin a day after reading about it in Diabetes For Dummies.

Do you recommend the book Diabetes for Dummies? what helpful info did you get from it?

Appologies for confusion. I did not mean you had offered advice to anyone about taking asprin. I meant anyone else considering taking aspirin should take advice. This is often a difficult means of communication and sometimes things are not read in the way the writer intends.
