I made swede chips last night for the first time and loved them!

A swede is a lot tougher to cut through than a potato but it's worth it. Peel and slice into "chips" boil for 5 mins. Put a sliver of lard in a plastic bag, add the warm "chips", season with salt and pepper and shake well. Ensure the chips are coated with the fat. Bake in a hot oven for about 25 mins. They are not as firm and crispy as chips, but if you have that craving they do the job.

So we had burger (on a cos lettuce leaf, no bread) and "chips" with a dollop of alioli for tea. Bloomin lovely!

Sounds nice and will definitely be giving these a go! Thanks 🙂 x

I haven't tried chipping a swede. I often use other veg with great success, though they are never crispy.

Someone posted a while ago about swede rice too. Can’t find that post though to try it

Have tried these, they are not bad, a nice change from spud and low carb too. Celeriac fries are even better - especially with fish where the slight aniseed flavour is great.

We had swede chips again last night, made them a bit crispier, much better. But they are so hard to cut up, is there such a thing as a swede chipper? I doubt a potato chipper would be up to the job. Any tips?

I've just found at Asda online that Aunt Bessie's make rosemary and sea salt swede chips, maybe pick them up the next time I'm there! 🙂 x

Wow! Haven't seen these. Will check them out. I've had Aunt Bessies veg chips & they are really nice.🙂

Wow! Thanks....think my Asda is to small but I’ll check it out. Swede is so hard to chop up properly. Although zi did make celeriac rice as shop had sold out....took ages though x
