Sunday breakfast, MyFitnessPal & a rant.

6 days a week I have multi-grain porridge for breakfast but Sunday I treat myself to a big ol' "fry-up" good quality* ingredients but way too many calories! Anyway as I've given up bread I decided to try something different today so made a Shakshuka from 'My Paris Kitchen' by David Lebovitz..... flipping 'eck it was good! Will definitely be looking to broaden my Sunday breakfast horizons going forward!

Have been using MyFitnessPal on and off for a few years in conjunction with GarminConnect and was wondering if it was worth upgrading to premium? Hate subscription models and Google having access to my CC details but it's only £65 for the year.... anyone have any thoughts?

* It's becoming increasingly impossible to find quality ingrediants at any price. Noticed a 'posh' supermarket putting bamboo fibre in there sausages no doubt to cover up the appallingly low quality of the meat despite the price. Same goes for bacon that leaches huge amounts of water that leaves a sticky residue in the pan and the rasher a quarter the size it was before cooking! :(((

I have been having duck casserole for breakfast last week - the ducks are quite large, from Lidl. I add an onion and any bits from the fridge which need using, and some frozen mixed veges once the duck is cooked..

sounds very nice

We love shakshuka and often “use” it as a way to use up vegetables since it is so flexible. As long as you have tomatoes, eggs and something spicy (we have done a “Mexican” version using chipotle paste instead of harissa), it tastes good. If we have some open, we will also add feta. And, if you eat meat, I am sure you can add some of that too.

It will be even nicer when I can cut some fresh thyme - it will soon have made some good growth.

Do you have a good high st butcher near you @indio02 ?

I tend to find that locally sourced bacon etc from a smaller independent butcher seems far more like the kind of thing I remember from childhood. Decently thick rashers, and far less salty goop when cooking than supermarket stuff.

Look up the benefits of premium, identify which ones you would find beneficial and actually use, then decide whether you value that at £65?

I have had a few of those ducks from Lidl this year and they have been really nice. I roast them low and slow and then turn the heat up at the end to crisp the skin and the meat just drops off the bone.
I like my berries, yoghurt and seeds for breakfast although berries have been replaced with stewed rhubarb now that it has come away in the garden, but really enjoying the duck for other meals.

For breakfast?????
Yes - a lot of my mother's family were diabetic and so they ate low carb - no cereals or toast for breakfast either at home or at my aunts' houses.

@indio02 I find that Heck sausages are worth the cost at 90% plus meat content. I know what you mean about bacon though, really difficult to get good bacon from supermarkets. Having spent a week in Wales have had a wonderful time with good quality bacon from the butcher near the cottage. Thick sliced and cooks up a treat.
But like Rebrascora, I still like a good bowl of Greek yoghurt, nuts (pecans and almonds at the moment) and some unsweetened stewed rhubarb with a little pear to complete the dish.

Just had heck 97% pork sausages for tea. With green beans, peas, premade
cauliflower cheese and roast parsnips. Amazing. I usually wait till they’re on offer but that’s fairly frequently, 2.50 in Sainsbury’s at the moment.
