@lozb, it's the carb value you should be checking on packets, and that is the total carbs, not just sugar. Low carb diets should be under 130g per day (please can someone correct me if I'm wrong in that). Rather than cutting out just sugars, us T2s respond well to cutting down on all carbs not just cake, biscuits etc, but potatoes, bread, rice, pasta etc as well.
NB, not all T2s go low carb, it's just that a lot of us have found it's the best way to maintain a good blood glucose level. There are several people here who just eat a normal diet now having put their diabetes into remission.
