Hi what I'm confused with is how much sugar Is allowed on packet foods etc. I've not had much help with this.
And what the daily allowance is. Thank you

Hi @lozb, it's the carb value you should be checking on packets, and that is the total carbs, not just sugar. Low carb diets should be under 130g per day (please can someone correct me if I'm wrong in that). Rather than cutting out just sugars, us T2s respond well to cutting down on all carbs not just cake, biscuits etc, but potatoes, bread, rice, pasta etc as well.
NB, not all T2s go low carb, it's just that a lot of us have found it's the best way to maintain a good blood glucose level. There are several people here who just eat a normal diet now having put their diabetes into remission.

My own rule of thumb is that if the pack says more than 10 g of carbs / 100 g of product then put it back on the shelf (or scale down the portions). That has worked well for me and is very simple and quick.

You may find the book or app Carbs and Cals useful as it gives the carb value of various portions of a whole range of foods and meals so it helps you make better food choices.
Looking at the packets for the TOTAL carbs or on the internet for food x and Total carb, it will often say per 100g so you would need to work it out for the portion you are going to have, on things like crackers it will sometimes say per cracker.
Identifying the foods which are low or zero carbs will help you plan your meals around those foods. Mainly they will be meat, fish, eggs, dairy, cheese, non starchy veg and salads.
This link may also help you with some menu ideas. https://lowcarbfreshwell.co.uk/
