Stress and BG Levels

My levels go sky high with stress generally ... but on days when I'm frantically busy with it they can go down, even if the activity isn't physical.

On the subject of relaxation lowering blood sugar, I control my DP by going back to bed after breakfast and relaxing - if I don't my levels mid-morning are invariably around 15. I've tested this out several times and nothing else seems to work for me.
Sounds wonderful!

Saw a thing on FB the other day which suggested taking a brief pause if you felt your stress anxiety was running out of control and then noticing things about your surroundings, your body, your senses. I’ll see if I can find it...
That sounds like mindfulness. Experiencing the here and now.

The impact of stress is never good eh but am learning that with T1 it goes to a whole new level. A wonderful soul on here pointed me in the direction of some short meditations. I did one last night and it was awesome ! I clearly need to engage in more of this and mindfulness strategies. I guess it’s like building a whole load of new strategies or just using the ones I have but in better way 🙂

I go up with stress as well, but not just work stress but also physical stress.

I went into London today with the little one and did a little too much walking and my foot/leg that has been playing up recently (the GP thought I'd managed to bruise a nerve in it) is fairly sore. Bingo, I'm higher than I would have expected. Just to add to the misery, these days I find it easy to trip up into anxiety and that pushes my levels a bit higher again. Rest day tomorrow I think.

@Mark T yup I hear you on the anxiety part as well. It all impacts doesn’t it! o_O
Have a good Sunday and enjoy the rest ! I feel like I’m on such a steep learning curve realising the impacts of my T1 in my world. Every day is a huge learning day right now and sounds like I should expect that for some time to come ...

The hugeness of the learning curve does ebb with the weeks months and years, but there's always going to be a curve for the simple reason 'they' are always finding new things out about the human body.

There again us old uns have to pipe up and remind them sometimes that the medical profession and diabetics as a whole knew things 50 years ago that 'they' decided no longer applied (ie restricting carbs) and tried to persuade us in the Real World it was rubbish - thus setting treatment of T2 back God knows how long.

Just be pleased that you and I have the 'simple' kind of diabetes Claudia - Type 1 ! LOL

I am glad I found this thread. I was wondering why my levels were so high. My OH took up our kitchen floor tiles yesterday in preparation for new flooring, so the whole kitchen has a fine covering of concrete dust. That would stress anyone right? To add to it all I nearly chopped my thumb in half closing the clothes airer, they are LETHAL! It is swollen up like a balloon. So even though I am eating the right things .... high readings. Hope it doesn't mess up my next Hba1c, I don't want to go back on the metformin. 😱

From my experience having gradually done a small bungalow only partially completed before we moved in - no it won't affect your A1c - as long as the job get's finished in good time.

However - the more you can close the door in your mind into the kitchen until it's finished and you can finish all the cleaning of ruddy well everything (other than the inside and contents of the fridge/freezer which will escape pristine) the better for you!

Wow! I’ve had such a stressful day and can feel myself really twitchy with some of the work stuff I am having to deal with today. The impact is my levels despite eating absolutely bang on today have punched up to 10 just now. Highest reading I have had in a few weeks. It really shows what stress can do doesn’t it. This is normal right ?? :(
I know everyone different but I always drop like a stone when stressed. At work on certain days I do not know what I am doing. It could be a re-wire or alarm. Some days it could be 7 call outs in different premises. In the past I have left the house & 1 job in Cheltenham 2 Bath 3 London. 🙂

I find that even good stress can put up my bgs e.g. packing for a holiday ,going to meet daughter coming home
CAROL

Stress affects me differently at different times: sometimes raises & others drops. I think it usually rises if I'm in pain from any little accidents. When grieving at the sudden shock of my mum"s death, 6 weeks after pancreatic cancer diagnosis, it dropped like a stone!

Interesting thread
Usually when I get home from the office I just quickly take a BG reading mainly out of curiosity and befoe dinner.
Usually it is around 4.2 to 4.7.
Yesterday I had one hell of a day, staff on holiday still and me working on the test area to get product out as well as the Trumpasausus causing one or two irritations.
When I check my level on getting home 2 hours later than normal and having put in a 14 hour day, my level was at 6.3.
I am rarely get stressed and can handle most things but yesterday must had had some effect.
Interesting.
