Strenght/Resistance training

My watch can recommend some strength/resistance training so was looking in a local sports shop for some weights. #baffled
Can anyone recommend what size weights or how I can work out what I should get?
Thanks

It is very personal.
I would recommend checking out your local gym. Not to join but to try out various weights to see what suits you.
The other option could be resistance bands. These are cheap and you can do all sorts of stretches and resistance training with them. And they take up very little space.
I bought a pack recently to make up the cost of an Amazon order (so I didn't have to pay postage). The bands cost less than £10 and have been used for various physio exercises.

I bought a resistance band. You could use tins or bottles of water to start with. I go to an excellent aqua fit class where the instructor concentrates on cardio vascular health and we use gloves or poles to cause resistance as we push down.

Where do you live? I live in East Yorkshire and have a pretty comprehensive selection of weight training equipment available free if you can collect it. You don't have to take all of it, you can just pick what you need. Alternatively I could meet you half way if it's not too far.

Also this guy, my wife's personal trainer, is very good. He does free videos on instagram, and also one to one training, either online or in person at the gym.

Here, in hospital, I have exercise bands attached to attached to both sides of the bed. It allows me to do a vast range of exercises to work different parts of the arm and the wrist. I used to use them to exercise my remaining leg but stopped when I was told to avoid stressing the foot because of comprised circulation. Any decent outlet should let you try a few to find what suits you. It is the same for weights - you have to go with what suits you. When I did cardio rehab at the end of eight weeks some people were using 500gm weights but two of us went with 4kg - a very large difference which emphasises how personal these things are.

If you have access to a gym, then I hugely, strongly, without equivocation, recommend the StrongLifts programme.

Hi @Chris Hobson,
Have you seen my Direct Message sent a few days ago?
I've just sent another one, just in case.
Ta.
