I was out shopping today and had this odd spaced out, light headed feeling but didn't attribute it to my blood sugar levels as I rarely drop below 6.2 and stay within fairly tight margins.

However I tested when I got home and strangely enough had dropped to 5. Now I know that's not remotely low for most of you but it is for me. Clearly my body thought so too because it sent me into temporary zombie mode. I know it's not dangerous for me as I didn't drop any lower and food quickly sorted it but it gave me a teensy weensy sense of what you guys most go through when a real and potentially more hazardous hypo occcurs 😱

I hear you there Amigo, Hypo's can be really scary..... I can count myself as fortunate to not be on hypo inducing medication anymore....

Oh I'm not on hypo inducing medication either Martin so it can't be classed as a true hypo in that sense. I think it's interesting how our bodies acclimatise to certain levels however and struggle a bit when out of the norm.
Just hope it's not a sign that I'm coming down with something though...too near my holidays for that! 🙄

Yup - and demonstrates quite clearly that hypos - real or 'false' - definitely DO affect our brains - and anyone who reckons they don't is remarkably stupid !

Glad it was sorted easily Amigo - very long may that continue.

I had a hypo once when diet and exercise only, when doing an exercise DVD, I went under 4.

Thanks Jenny...just made me more dizzy than usual and look longingly at a Mars Bars at the checkout! :D

It is interesting how our bodies acclimatise to different levels - I've a friend who regularly gets false hypos under about 6, whereas my body is so used to being around 3 it often doesn't register that as hypo.
I'd have thought your bgl would go up rather than down if you were coming down with something, so hopefully nothing to worry about.

Yes hopefully Juliet. I always seem to get a cold before a holiday but it does push me up not down. This was an odd experience for sure o_O

What I find tricky with the little blighters, is to stay with it enough to faff about taking a BG reading, taking the necessary number of glucose tablets whilst not stuffing my face with everything in the fridge and kitchen cupboards :D😳
Luckily at the moment I'm pretty hypo aware and catch them early on, so I am still reasonably 'with it'. Must be very scary to lose the awareness.
