I've got too much cheese left in the fridge. But I'm planning on doing an 800 calorie a day thing for the next 2 months once that's gone.

I've done 1500 before, but 800 is a whole different ballgame I think. Going to be an interesting challenge. I might even do a video series about it.

I've got a bunch of supplements coming this week (magnesium, vitamins, few other bits) so hopefully won't have an issue. Didn't fancy doing the shake approach to this, so I'll be mainly lettuce and spinach etc. Looking forward to it now 🙂 weird isn't it!

I think they used the shakes for the study, as it was a way of controlling everyone having the same.

Hope it goes well for you @zoombapup

Have you read Prof Taylor’s book?

If you do make vids - link us up. 🙂
I have read about it but not looked into it as I think reducing carbs was a challenge enough for me. Also worried I would get flaky - have no idea what calories I am consuming because only using carbs and sometimes checking sugars. Have lost weight so far - more than halfway there so as it is working for me I am just going to carry on. I like being able to have the occasional treat and worry that if I have to start denying myself more than cakes, biscuits, potatoes, rice and pasta - I may explode! 😛

Sounds like you are ready for this! Go get those 800 cals! I look forward to your updates.

Wishing you success, but wondering why you need to lose weight/control BG by using the hardest method.
Or have you already tried some of the easier ways, such as the Low Carb way of eating with no conscious calorie reduction, just get fat adapted and then don't eat when you aren't hungry.
So this morphs into Time restricted eating/Intermittent Fasting when fat adapted so yo live off your fat reserves and its a double win situation.
The problems with all low calorie diets are:-
1. You are constantly hungry.
2. Your body goes into starvation mode, lowering your metabolic rate and causing you to need to cut calories even more.
3. On a crask diet most people (at least some of the time) lose weight too fast resulting in lose hanging folds of skin.
4. You can only stay on it for a fairly short while, after which you need to transition to a sustainable lifestyle - so why not adopt the sustainable lifestyle in the first place!

Close relation diagnosed type 2 recently. told them about good work of Prof Taylor Newcastle diet to reverse condition, good luck my friend.

Good luck!

Hi Ian,

Mostly doing it out of interest to see if I can. It's the work of Prof Taylor that's inspired me to give this a go. I'm already doing LCHF and IF, so I'll be doing back to that when I've finished my 2 months. But I want to try the 800 cal to see the physiological changes more quickly. Essentially there seems to be no reason why not and in my case I've got enough weight to lose that its probably going to work well for me. As I said, I've done 1500 cals before and lost a very large amount but then regained because of lifestyle issues. Now I can reasonably expect to do the same in terms of loss, but hopefully have a longer more sustainable lifestyle at the back end.

But really, its just curiosity and bloody mindedness.

I'm actually starting the Fast 800 diet as of this morning. I'm trying to look at it from a positive point of view, rather than dreading being hungry etc. I'd rather be hungry for a couple of months than have diabetes.

I would rather not be hungry at all, lose weight and put my T2 Diabetes into remission (i.e a Low Carb way of eating - as opposed to calorie restrictions).
But it seems that many want to lose weight faster : to be hungry, get unsightly lose skin folds, put their body into starvation mode so that they need to cut calories even further to lose weight, be constantly cold and lacking in energy etc. Only to still have to switch to a sustainable (e.g. low carb) lifestyle in order to maintain their lower Blood Glucose levels.

Why pick the Prof Taylor (Calorie restriction method) for losing weight and putting T2 D into remission rather than the Dr David Unwin (Low Carb method) when the latter has better results and has been achieved by hundreds of time more people (i.e. David Unwin's patients, DCUK's Low Carb program, Virta Health in the USA and many other worldwide)?
