Hi deborah, welcome to the forum
🙂 I'm sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis - how did it come about? What insulin is he on?
It sounds like it is very early days for you still, so it's likely that there will need to be some adjustments made to insulin doses as you gain more knowledge and experience. How old is he?
I would highly recommend getting a copy of
Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - considered to be the 'bible' for children and young people on insulin regimes, it covers all aspects of living with the condition, what to look out for and how to handle things.
Without more information it's hard for us to make any real comment on the rise in blood sugar levels after eating, as it could be due to a number of factors. If you can tell us a bit more, we might be able to give you a better explanation
🙂 Please ask ANY questions you have - there is a lot to learn, and very quickly, with Type 1, but things will get easier in time and it does not have to stand in the way of him achieving anything he sets his mind on. People from all walks of life have Type 1, yet it hasn't stopped them reaching the very top of their chosen field
