Just tested with a 9.0 before tea :( cant think why as had the same for lunch as I've done plenty times, I did have a hypo at half 9 this morning but was 6.2 before lunch so surely it cant be due to this? just had to take my first correction in goodness knows how long x

Your body can take up to 24 hours to recover from a hypo, and so can be a bit unstable for the rest of the day.
Don't worry about it too much Kaylz,
9 really isn't a spike 🙂
I indulged in a snack of Nutella on toast last night and my post eating BG was 14.6! Once in a while I get these spikes, just correct and learn from them and don't let it get you down x

Lots of things cause this, and unless you start to see a pattern, it could just be an anomaly. You may be getting over your honeymoon period too. So these are to be expected.

Could be excitement, stress, change in weather, absorption. You could have just done a dodgy injection so it didn't absorb properly for your lunch.

Generally I have been taught not to correct unless I'm over 12 (it's normally 10 but I'm so sensitive to insulin) unless it's with a meal.

So keep an eye. If you find you usually go higher this time, your needs may have changed.

Just another point, you'll find your insulin needs will change quite a bit. Different time of year, different time in your life. That's why pattern recognition is so important.

All the best

I tested after a lunch that wouldn't usually cause me much of a problem and I was 9.5! I know I don't have insulin adjustments to contend with but the unexpected figures just show how the big D can surprise at any time.

I put it down to my bad cold....oh and chips! :D

Doubt it's coming out the honeymood period as 2 units sent me hypo with my toast this morning lol, it was with my meal dose that I corrected with and I will check again in a couple of hours, no pattern with my usual readings so suppose it's just been one of them things! just don't understand it really I've never had this that long after a hypo before but guess I could have still been on the rise :( x

Hope you feeling better soon Kaylz. I am sure it will just be a blip and nothing to worry about, your readings are normally good.

Take care
David

I'm afraid that the end of the honeymoon period isn't all that simple. The pancreas doesn't just stop working. It kind of goes intermittent.

You're doing amazingly. One thing you're going to have to learn (and I hope too learn it quicker than I ever did) is that sometimes there's no rhyme or reason for the sugars to go up or down. You'll get unexplained hypos and hypers that you won't understand.

Everyone on here will tell you, you can do the same thing one day to the next and have radically different results. 🙂

Hi Kaylz

The problem is that we are not robots, and our bodies just do things weird sometimes.
As others have said you are diong really well.

It's more than likely your honeymoon period coming to an end. The easiest way to deal with things is do not get hung up over numbers.
After all at the end of the day it's a number so just correct at your next meal. No one ever has perfect numbers and if they say they do then their middle name is Pinocchio and they walk around with an extended nose.

Sue speaks the truth. 😉

You shouldn't be disappointed in yourself unless you knew better and did something anyway (and even so, none of us are perfect all the time). If you did your best, based on previous evidence and, with hindsight wouldn't do anything different, how can you feel disappointed? As everyone had said, we are not robots and blood sugars change all the time. I have never met anyone with as good blood sugars as you.

@Kaylz Honestly you are doing much better than you think.

My GP has increased my Diabetes Nurse has increased my Metformin and my blood sugars are still between 15.3 and 27.6 and that's pre-meal results

Kaylz...as @Pumper_Sue says...no one gets it right all the time...don't be so hard on yourself...its a hiccup...it happens...can't offer any advice on insulin...but...from what those that are better informed than I am say...seems you're doing really well in your control...another day...write it off...its all a leaning curve...put it behind you...press on.

It is so hard to not be emotionally affected by the numbers, and I am working on just seeing the number as information. Sometimes the only information is to take a correction as in your case. You are doing unbelievably well, you numbers are excellent and you have nothing to worry about. I hope you have a good day.

Currently not going well just tested with a 3.8 1 and a half hours after breakfast :( really feeling like I can't deal with it all now and it's all getting too much x
