Hi Kaylz As Davo says you always give lovely and positive messages to everyone. You are helpful and encouraging. I'm sending hugs to you and hope you soon feel brighter. I hope that hypo soon goes. You are always very capable so stay strong. xx

Thanks very much guys!! feeling a bit better now, just the headache kicked in but me being me refuses to take painkillers, I don't take anything unless its absolutely necessary lol thank you for all the kind words and everything its really appreciated 🙂 xx

I'm the same @Kaylz 🙂

Please don't let the odd rogue number bring you down. If you can't think of a possible reason for it being higher than expected, chalk it down to the Diabetes Fairy - she flits around the world's diabetics doing this sort of thing all the time, the little minx! 😉 Occasionally, it's possible to get an 'outlier' - a reading that really doesn't reflect what you expect, and it's sometimes worth doing a retest. I'd probably only do that if I saw double figures though, when expecting something 5 mmol/l lower, otherwise I'd just ignore it. I forget what the actual figures are, but I think that test strips, as well as having a 10% range either way in terms of accuracy, also have something like 2-5% of strips that are totally off the scale - they're not 100% accurate.

Also, at this time of year a lot of people find their ratios and insulin requirements changing - all to do with our Circadian Rhythms (body clocks) - longer, warmer days, perhaps being more active, making different food choices and combinations etc., so it's not unusual to get caught out by the odd low until you get a handle on how you need to adjust things - I'm having to do that at the moment 🙂

All part of the learning experience, you are doing a brilliant job! 🙂 I'm glad though that you posted because it's important that you get the support from everyone if something does get you down - never let it stew! 🙂

@Northerner I've always hated taking medication and only did it when I needed antibiotics and now I end up having to take insulin all the time!! lol x

Look at insulin in a different light............... it's the elixir of life.

I once finished up a conversation about statins with my GP with the words 'and I hate taking things' and she pointed out that I took insulin. Didn't have time to enter into discussion about why I thought differently about that, just politely refused the statins!

I've always thought of insulin differently as well - if I'm ever asked if I'm on any medication I always reply 'just a small dose of candesartan for blood pressure', it never enters my head to think of insulin as 'medication'! 🙂

When I came out of hospital after diagnosis I was on 11 different medications - plus insulin! 🙂

Oh I do see my insulin as completely different, its what's keeping me alive but imo unless absolutely necessary it's not worth taking, dealt with worse than a sore head without painkillers so I just put up with it haha x

Well I just had a call from Paul my lovely original DSN, he's quite happy with how I am doing, available options, if I keep waking up in the 4's either reduce my breakfast bolus further which I was planning on doing anyway after the past 2 days or reduce my Tresiba, I'm going to try the breakfast reduction tactic first though, sending me out an appointment for 3 months time but if I need anything just to give them a call and if I need to see someone sooner phone and arrange it 🙂 x

Good service from Paul! 🙂 Hope the adjustment does the trick 🙂

Thinking about it now actually if I'd changed the settings on my meter for my 'new' ratio with my levels being 4.9 this morning it probably would have suggested a 1.5 unit dose rather than a 2 unit dose 😱 but it's still on my old ratio I just didn't think about it either yesterday or today 🙄 so nobody to blame but myself but at that time in the morning I'm still half asleep, so will change the ratio tonight!! never mind I will learn from my stupid mistakes :( x

You're only human Kaylz! 🙂 (You are human, aren't you? 😱 😉)

Brilliant of Paul. Can he ring us all up?!
I expect he is very happy with how you are doing, so good you have his support and help.

Sometimes I'm not too sure myself so I cant say yes 😉 lol x

I think of insulin as different. My husband, who is not diabetic, produces insulin automatically, so all I'm doing is replacing a hormone that's already there in 'normal' people.

Kaylz I often feel down during and after a hypo. I think they hypo amplifies what ever mood I'm thinking.

You can do this. You'll have days when you aren't in range (sometimes it might be a whole day when you just can't get your sugars down all day). But you're doing great.

I actually wish everyone did have a Paul haha, I've saw 5 different DSN's in my 6 months and him and Theresa that I met 2 weeks ago are by far the best!! it was meant to be Theresa that called back this week for a catch up from last week about my changing breakfast ratio but he said they were chatting about me this morning and decided he'd do it, he says everything spoken about between them was all good but hmm I dunno lol :D x
