Smartmeters

I would agree with Amanda, Mike, and Vince that smart meters are just not tried enough technology yet - people who have them have reported bills going up rather than down, there are potential health risks which haven't been sufficiently well researched, and they are ridiculously insecure, far too easy to hack. We have the legal right to refuse a smart meter (though if your meter needs to be replaced because it's too old, it's best not to refuse a new meter altogether, just ask them to install a dumb meter).

So while I think it is discriminatory to refuse to install a meter because of the insulin in the fridge (it's your diabetes, it's up to you to know whether that's a risk, it's your decision) I also think there's a good chance they've saved you money and hassle and a slight chance they've saved you future health problems by refusing to install one!

What are the health risks? The meters use the same tech as mobile phones and wireless routers and the flux density from the signal is insignificant and there's stacks of research into these devices.

Oh no not more health risks!
Well you’d get the radiation or whatever from your neighbours signal.
As for bills same happens with ordinary meters seen it many a time on watchdog.
Probably is hiccups! I’ve not seen any nor has any of my neighbours. You only here about the one’s who have problems. Which must be few and far between as with anything. That is what’s putting me off getting a libre. To many problems for such an expensive piece of kit. Gonna hold off see what sugar beat is like when it’s Released.

There are quite a lot of anecdotal health issues, the problem is that none of them have been properly researched yet. Many of them may well turn out to be rubbish, but some of them might not. And for those of us with neurological diseases (like me), the risk is greater - some people with my illness do have adverse reactions to mobile phones and wireless routers, which is why I keep my mobile turned off when I'm not using it, and don't have wireless in the house (I don't currently react to either mobiles or wifi, but then I didn't react to chemicals before I started reacting to chemicals, if you see what I mean, so I'm not taking any chances).

Yep, I thought the thread was about glucose meters when I first saw it too!
