Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Just recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes it was a shock and im still finding it difficult to get my head round it,eating, weight and generally all the issues surrounding the illness

All your feelings are perfectly normal but you will settle down soon enough.......

a diagnosis these days is not such a bad thing as the technology, experience and support out there now is great and improves every day.....

coming here is a great find, it took me a few years to finally go out and look for others.....

Hi Malcolm, and welcome to the forum. First thing is, don't panic! It can be a shock, yes, but much can be done to control the condition as you will see from reading the posts here. Can you tell us a bit more about yourself? Do ask any questions you like as nothing is silly and we'll do our best to answer 🙂

You can help control it straightaway by reducing or giving up carby foods like potatoes, rich, bread and pasta. Exercise is very good, and losing some weight if you need to. Have a read around the threads here, and I'm sure others will be along shortly to welcome you.

Hi im 51 in a few weeks to say that the diagnosis came as a shock is an understatement initially i went for other medical reasons and came out diabetic phew ive only been for my eye check nothing else yet. on the positive side ive quit sugar cut down on soft drinks changed bread to brown and the biggest change quit smoking after many years

Welcome to the most exclusive club outside of the masons. With our guidance you will become stronger fitter, slightly unhinged and a true Diabetic Jedi.

May the force be with you

I think i might fit in well as im slightly deranged any way look forward to speaking to all of you. i think changing my diet should be ok it getting to grips with food labels

I follow something along the lines of GL For Dummies, it works for this dummy.

Hi Malcolm Welcome to our Club. Sounds like you're off to a good start. Yes it is a shock when you're first told but luckily Diabetes is a manageable condition unlike some I can mention, and it's one where with a bit of knowledge (don't worry,we'll help there) and a bit of work you are likely to end up fitter than you've been in a long time.

Hi Malcolm, and welcome to the gang!🙂

Hi Malcolm - sounds like you'll fit in really well here. Why not pop into a virtual pub - all drinks being virtual are of course entirely carb free, and you can snack on all sorts of also carb-free delicacies whilst enjoying the craic or drowning your sorrows.

Actually I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't allow virtual smoking in there too - although I think the virtual ashtrays are what they serve the Bombay and C-Diff Mix in these days.

I'm not a very great lover of just swapping white carbs for brown ones - if only it were THAT simple! You might be better off just cutting em down anyway really. (gradually!)

There's a Glossary somewhere Malcolm - on the 'Newbies' page?

Re all the acronyms, I struggled with these as well. However, in the newbies thread there is a post called useful info for newly diagnosed. In that there are explanations which are great.
