Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Well, here it is then, diabetes.
A whole new page to become acquainted with.
An unexpected condition to learn about and deal with.
So far, I've attended a course that is pretty much a short but informative introduction to what diabetes is, and how to deal with it through diet, exercise and medication.
I know that I'll get used to the changes but also I suspect that there may be much more to it (?)
So, I'm here, looking around me and saying hello.

I have been informed that I need to inform my insurers of my diagnosis, even though I'm not type 1 and not insulin dependant. I automatically assumed that the reference was to motor insurers. Is this a fact?

Hi Len, welcome to the group.... I'm sure that you will learn a lot from us as well as being a valued member of our community.

As for the insurance..... I don't live in the UK anymore (Southern California) but I'm sure that there is someone who will be along shortly who knows the rules

Welcome Len from a fellow T2

Welcome Len, yes you need to inform your car insurers.

I told my insurers, and they noted it, but it didn't make any difference to my premium.

Hi and welcome to the forum

Hi Len and welcome

Re the insurance, Martin’s posted a very useful link above so nothing else to add really.

Hi Len, welcome to the forum 🙂 Sorry to hear about your diagnosis, how did it come about? Do you have any family history of diabetes? Never great news to get, but the good thing about diabetes is that you can learn to manage it well so it doesn't have to have a negative impact on your life. In fact, many people find that the adjustments they make to their diet and activity levels results in them feeling healthier and happier than they have for some time, so it can actually work as a positive 'kick' to consider your health carefully and improve things 🙂

I'd recommend reading Maggie Davey's letter - full of useful, proven advice about how to manage your diabetes, and also get yourself a copy of the excellent Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker, which will help to guide you through these early months 🙂

I can't answer the question about insurance as I don't drive, but please ask as many questions as you wish, there's bound to e someone here who can answer them! 🙂
