Anyone have any idea on the carbs in rhubarb? x

It depends on how much sugar you cook it with. It's unpalatable without.

Cheers Mike, any idea about Strawbs, supermarket websites say 6g per 100g but google says 8g x

I would most probably err on side of caution and go with the higher one.

It probably depends on the water content! A strawberry that has grown quickly in wet conditions and absorbed more water will contain fewer carbs per 100g than a smaller, more concentrated one.

I used to grow Sweet Cicely in the garden at our old house, ( related to angelica, slightly aniseedy) and if you added a handful to rhubarb when stewing it, it needed a lot less sugar to make it palatable. Trouble is, it seeded itself all over the place, so I didn't bring any with us when we moved.

What do you count strawbs as @Robin x

I've had the Tesco strawbs before and counted them as 6g as that what it said on the website and it seemed to work so will try again haha x

Not really. Since I usually cook rhubarb in a crumble, with orange juice / water / orange peel and / or apple in bottom and topping of 2 parts porridge oats / 1 part butter and 1 part (or less) sugar (brown sugar tastes nicer than white). Was very popular with 5 visitors from Jordan last week, along with my mum and me, but not dad, who hasn't date rhubarb for decades, which means mum doesn't have it often.

I can have rhubarb on Atkins, but I never think to! I'm trying to grow my own so if I get any by the end of summer I'll give it a whirl. 🙂

There was some rhubarb already in the garden when we moved here, but like Copepod, R cooks it in crumble with oats and brown sugar 🙂

@Kaylz if you want to know the carb content of anything, try putting it into this site - http://www.calorieking.com/foods/ - it comes up with calories at the top, but if you scroll down a bit it tells you carbs etc too. In this case, it reckons 100g rhubarb has 4.5g carbs.

I grow my own & like it loads. If you go on the web it tells you how good it is for diabetics. Not with sugar ! I cook mine with sweetner & its normally gone before it gets to be a crumble. 🙂

My granddad used to grow it when he was in his old house I love the stuff 🙂 x

I got my heart of "Barb" from my uncles allotment & planted it at my mam & dads house. When my kids where growing up I took a heart off that plant & put it in my garden. Have look on web its good for diabetics (without sugar) Family Barb.

Sorry to be off-topic, but if you have only just planted or transplanted your rhubarb, the general advice is not to harvest it at all in the first year. As I am also in my first year with a transplanted crown, but fabulous growth, it's torture!

I have stewed rhubarb (with sweetener if necessary) every morning on to op my Greek yoghurt, for brekkers. It's delicious.
