Does anyone have any idea of how accurate the carbs on the packaging is.I find I need to almost double my insulin dose for what packing says

Hi @Janet Eames , welcome to the forum. Is it any particular meal or all of them that this happens with.

Thank you .Ready meals are not part of my regular diet but as a break from cooking now and again ,but I have found with one I had last week pasta based I looked at the carbs listed and added a couple of units for a half portion only to find my b.g had gone up to 15.6 in two hours. My control is normally good I’ve been a type 1 for almost 50 years, and dose by carb counting for about 14 years

But what was your BG after 4 hours? If it returned to a reasonable level by then, it could be a question of the timing of the dose, not the amount? The high carb content of a pasta ready meal would certainly cause me to spike quite high, before the insulin got to work and lowered my BG again, unless I injected in advance of eating, (anywhere up to 30 minutes before in my case)

Any chance you could have made an error such as bolusing for half the carbs in 100g rather than half the pack?

I checked several times on the pack and am sure I did it right. I have been on the D.AFNE regime for 14 years, and thought I was doing o.k,but I do occasionally get these unexpected spikes,I think I am really conscious of it since getting the libre freestyle sensor a couple of weeks ago .I think Ineed to stop stressing about as it was going to make my life easier not stress me out becauseI think b g is too high.

Diabetes does tend to send us these curve balls from time to time.
I think when we first start using the Libre we are just not used to having so much info staring us right in the face, it gave me a shock I can tell you, but now we are friends :D , hopefully you and your Libre will become firm friends too.

So relieved by your message,I looked earlier at results people were giving for their libre readings, and was in despair.Definetly time to relax,I’ve had type one for49 years ,now over 70 , so as I’m still here and feel well I’ll take that as a plus

Absolutely Janet - currently I'm just looking forward to celebrating my 50th diaversary and the 100th one of insulin treatment - the first in 2022 and the second in 2023.
