Hi every body, I am just curious about other peoples ratios....My morning ratio is very high, and hope there is somebody else like me out there.

Breakfast 4 units quick acting for every 10 carbohydrates/ 1 CP
Lunch 1.5 units quick acting for every 10 carbohydrates/ 1CP
Dinner 1 unit quick acting for every 10 carbohydrate/ 1CP

I am so insulin resistant in the morning, and to correct high BG readings I use 1 unit to bring my blood down 1 mmol!! For the rest of the day 1 unit of corrector brings me down 3/4 mmol.......

Christine

Hi christine my ratios are 2:1 , 2 units for every 10 gr of carbs for all meals 🙂

Hi Christine, I'm the same as you in the morning - 4 units for 10g, then it declines through the day, with 2:10g at lunch and 1.5:10g evening. I have only done about 3 corrections in over 3 years, but go off 1 unit=3mmol/l 🙂

Like most I need more in the morning............

Breakfast 3 unit for 10g
Lunch 1.25 unit for 10g [just recently changed to this]
Dinner 1.5 units for 10g
Evening/Supper 2 units for 10g

I am puzzled by my new lunch ratio, but that's what the numbers say...........

For corrections, I adjust mine according to my blood sugar level, so the higher I am, the less effective 1 unit is at lowering my BG, still to find anyone else practicing this method......:D

Breakfast I take 2.7 per 10g carb, 2 per 10g carb for lunch, 2.5 per 10g carb for dinner.

My correction is 1 unit per 1 mmol

Having not met DAPHNE :D we don't do CP 's so your numbers all look a bit weird to me - we just total the carbs and divide by a given number but I think I've converted correctly-

Breakfast 2.5 units per CP
Lunch and Evening 2 units per CP

Tho' think they all will have to increase with colder weather - will see what the numbers are like after a couple of days back at school (last week being half term)

NRB - we are using different corrections at higher numbers now since I saw you mention the otherday🙂 Haven't talked to clinic about it but makes sense to me and they don't have to live with the D fairy 😱

I'm sure there's something about needing more the higher your BG is, in either 'Using Insulin' by John Walsh or 'Think Like a Pancreas' by Gary Scheiner .....

I'm just 1u per 10g all the time, and 1u per 3mmol. About the only diabetic thing I am slightly 'normal' in !

I think mine are:

Breaky 12 grams per unit of I
Lunch 10 grams per unit of I
Dinner 15 grams per unit of I

Yep the higher your BG the more insulin resistant you are.
My previous pump had a lovely feature where you could programe it for this problem.

Mine was set for 14mmol/l increase correction by 15% and set for higher increases the higher the blood sugar. I have only needed the 15% increase twice in the 4 years I have been pumping and it does work very well.

These are the sorts of things the NHS should have a pile of leaflets about. Sadly, they don't seem to know nor care.

Still so much to learn.

At the mo ratios are:

1u:7g for breakfast
1u:10g for dinner
1u:10g for tea

but could change at any moment.

Hi Christine mine is:-

1 unit NovoRapid for evry 10 carbs breakfast
1 unit NovoRapid for every 10 carbs lunch
3/4 unit NovoRapid for every 10 carbs Dinner ( if total carbs works out eg 9 units I would just take 6 units)
I'm Insulin sensitive, even if I had to take a couple of extra units, for a higher BS, then I have to be careful throughout the day, because the 'extra' insulin would still be working, and I have forgotten this sometimes 😱. Sheena

It's good to see how different we all are...I must add if I wake up with a beautiful 5.5mmol, I would have my 4 units per 10 carbohydrates AND I would still need at least 2 extra units to stop myself going high pre lunch. I have tried putting my BI up, but I have hypos mid-late afternoon (tested that out on various occasions by having a carbohydrate free lunch). So, it just shows how resistant I am in the morning!!😡!!

Hi pazza.

have you ever considered swapping your humulin for maybe humalog or novorapid ?

Just wondered if might make a difference.🙂

Rob

Hi Rob, after the birth of my daughter I was put onto novorapid and levemir. I struggled so much. I then went back onto the older style humulin s and humulin I, which were as near as possible to my faithful monotard and actrapid. However, humulin I wasn't doing it's job and whilst on the dafne course they suggested returning to levemir....I was doubtful, but with my new learned principles levemir is working okay now! I hate having two different brands of insulin and was considering asking to go onto actrapid (novo)! But I'm embarrassed to say it's just because I hate having two different pens/brands. I've just got to grips with humulin s and levemir and how they work, the thought of going back to novo rapid (other than it being the brand I want)! dousn't make me so enthusiastic! However, it may work, but I feel I'm not having such a hard time with humulin s, it's just the huge dose in the morning due to resistance.....Thank you for your suggestion....more please!!

Hi pazza,

Have you tried lantus instead of levemir? That was my basal until I went on my pump, I now pump with novorapid, used to have humalog/lantus on MDI and don't really notice any difference between novorapid and humalog.

Been there and tried Lantus!...forgetting as to why I came off it actually! Thank you anyway!! More ideas and suggestions? or shall I just continue with the huge amount of quick acting in the morning???!

It depends on what you call a huge amount really - you need what you need for the carbs in the food you are eating in order to keep your levels steady. As I said earlier, my breakfast ratio is the same as yours, but I only have 15g carbs for breakfast, so that's 6 units. I need more than you do for later in the day, but my total daily dose of insulin is about 35 units which isn't a lot really. We have some members here who inject hundreds of units a day, and yet others who have to be careful about every half-unit! We are the way we are, I think. I know that a lot of my breakfast fast-acting is to help deal with the output from my liver at that time of day, not my carbs/breakfast, but as I am on one lantus injection a day which serves me perfectly well it's the only solution 🙂

Currently 1:8g for breakfast, 1:7g for lunch and 1:10g for evening meal.
