Hi @WoolspinnerEm and welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your neuropathy.

We have members with varying degrees of neuropathic pain and I am sure some will be along soon with thoughts. In the meantime I would be contacting my GP asking for help with it.

Welcome to the forum @WoolspinnerEm

Sorry to hear about your neuropathy. How long have you been living with neuropathic pain?

@Flower was offering some helpful thoughts about nerve pain and painkiller options recently.

I gather from other members over the years that elevated or erratic BG levels can trigger flare-ups of pain. How is your diabetes management? Is there anything we can help you with? How do you manage your diabetes? And how long have you been diagnosed?

I’m on metformin, but nothing else and I’ve never been offered bold testing management or anything. Ive recently lost 41/2 stone and now this last week developed neck, arms and hands pain. So much pain!

The go unitt at the northern general said to contact my doctors again but can’t get through!
, I’m desperate

Well done on the terrific weight loss!

Do you know if this has had an impact on your blood glucose levels? Sometimes a rapid improvement in BG levels can bring-on nerve pain.

Has neuropathy been formally diagnosed? Or is it just that you are experiencing pain?

Hope you find a way to manage your pain more effectively.

Sorry, gp unit

Thank you, I’m frantically trying to get in touch with the doctors but it’s Monday morning

I’ve been diagnosed about 4 yrs, everything fine until just recently but can’t get to the doctors. I’m disabled with mobility issues

It is so difficult trying to access healthcare at the moment. Have you considered trying NHS111 if your GPs phone system is overwhelmed on Monday mornings (it can take hours to get through to ours)

When my wife was in palliative care with cancer, one of the common questions was, “On a scale of 1-10 how would you rate your pain? Where 1 is hardly noticeable and 10 is the worst pain imaginable”

How would you rate your pain at the moment?

Hang in there. Things will improve.

Living with pain long-term can feel overwhelming and unimaginable - but there IS hope. Things will get better. Are you taking any prescribed medication for your pain?

If it is all feeling too much, please call the Samaritans free and in complete confidence on 116 123. You are not alone in this and help is available.

Thank you for the advice. I’ve just spoken to my g.p. She has sent a prescription of galbatine? To boots for me. My husband will pick it up at lunchtime. Just got to somehow last till then. It’s very kind of you

That is the medication many with neuropathy are prescribed.

If the medication (could it be gabapentin?) does not seem to do much then go back to your GP. There are several medicines used to treat neuropathic pain and as far as I can work out a bit of trial and error might be needed to sort out what is best for you.

I’m sorry to hear you’re in pain @WoolspinnerEm it really can be miserable. You’ve done the right thing by contacting your GP and I really hope the medication helps. Speaking from experience (I have peripheral neuropathy) the medication can take a little while to work but hang on in there, and give it a chance. All the best.

Thank you. I’m very close to the edge it’s so painful and so much of my body!
