If the medication (could it be gabapentin?) does not seem to do much then go back to your GP. There are several medicines used to treat neuropathic pain and as far as I can work out a bit of trial and error might be needed to sort out what is best for you.
Yes, I think that’s the one. Thank you

@WoolspinnerEm very sorry to read about your pain. You mention that you have not been offered blood testing. Is it something you would be able to fund for yourself?
Things are different for me as I have type 1, however, I find high blood sugars will emphasise any aches, pains, sniffs cough, etc.
If you know what your blood sugars are doing, you may be able to bring them down through diet, etc. This could reduce some of the pain you are currently feeling.

I am sure there are some people with t2 who will be willing to advise on which meters best to purchase

I haven’t a clue on what to do, and and courses are suspended at the moment. Thank you. I’ll have to come back, sorry, feeling sick!

Thank you. I’m very close to the edge it’s so painful and so much of my body!
It’s very difficult to deal with, I really sympathise, especially when conventional painkillers don’t touch the pain. Give the new meds a chance, I think that once you’re taking them, psychologically it puts you in a better place as you know you’re doing something that can help you.

I never know if I should ring for an ambulance with pain. It’s getting so bad I think I might do something silly

Is amazon an ok place to buy blood glucose stuff? I’ve never had to buy medical equipment before. Very scared, I wish a health professional could be with me in person, I’ve never felt so alone. You are all very kind

How long do they take to work if I must ask? I’ve had two tablets since lunch yesterday and the pain is still so bad. It’s not quite jump off a cliff level anymore but not by much. Do they have an accumulative effect?

Can take a week to start to see a noticeable difference - but if after a fortnight the difference is not enough, probably needs an increased dose. They have to work up to the 'right' level gradually - but the max daily dose is 3600mcg per day so it's far too early to tell what, if anything, gabapentin is capable of doing for you yet. I doubt whether anyone suggested relief would be instant, cos it rarely if ever, is that, for anything.

Carry on carrying on! {{{Hugs}}}

Thank you! Everyone here has been so supportive. I’m just about clinging on, the tablets do seem to be starting to work. I managed to speak to my doctors this morning, that helped knowing I’ve done nothing wrong, just been very unfortunate. The tablets are making me feel very drunk, (ima teetotaler!) I hate this feeling but anything is better than the pain

Thank you everyone who replied and helped me. The tablets are working a little but I’m going to have to rest. This is a huge effort to focus and type. I’ll try and log on again soon and hope to speak to you all then. Xx Emma

Glad to hear the tablets are beginning to have an effect Emma.

Hope that continues to build up over the coming days.

If you are interested in self monitoring you glucose levels and need to self fund your BG meter, the most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50

Then you might find test-review-adjust a helpful framework to look into the effect of the carbohydrates you are eating on your levels, meal by meal, so you can adjust things in a focussed way.

Let us know how you get on.
