Quick question

Relationship to Diabetes

Hi when I get up in morning my sugers are highest I know about dawn pH.
However question is should I fast or eat small amount to bring down .
Always been curious about this..

What are your waking levels? can you share a bit more info if you feel comfortable doing so

Hi yesterday was 11. 6
Today is 14
No idea what is causing it
Tea last night at 6 was salad and fish simple
And cup of tea.
During day my sugers are around 10.
I know way to high and have spoken to drs.
I just wonder do I eat like a boiled egg or such or just fast till it goes down.
Been struggling even though eating well.

Try different things and see what works for you by testing. I find exercise in the evening (a brisk walk if it is fine or running up and down stairs 20 times on the trot) really stops my DP/Foot on the Floor.

I notice you joined 9 years ago. Have you noticed your numbers trending upwards for a while or have the levels you're seeing now come on suddenly?

Hi even though eating healthier since dx my numbers are going up .
I'm trying to see what I'm doing wrong x

It sounds as if your body is less able to cope with the carbohydrates you are having and the medication you are taking if any isn't doing it job.
Those are high morning readings so something must be going on. Would you like to give examples of typical meals as someone may spot something.
Limiting your carb intake to less than 130g per day is often sufficient but you may now need help from a medication addition or change.

it might be worth keeping a food diary to see what/which and how each food affect your BG. Just and idea

This is a question I was asking myself last week. The only way to find out is to try both options and test.

I found to my surprise that extending my fast brought down BG naturally by as much as I would expect from eating a meal with meds. I haven't yet tried eating a snack without meds to see what effect that will have.

Good luck finding a "tweak" that works for you.

Meals are yesterday and today so far.

Sun No brekfast
ate at 12

6pm Salad and fish (fresh Bassa)

You should do whichever gives best blood sugars for you and which fits into your life best

That certainly looks to be pretty low carb so I am concerned that you are seeing those quite high readings.
I can't see if you have mentioned taking any medication.
You haven't by any change started taking steroids as they can increase blood glucose.
I think a chat with your nurse would be a good idea.

Hi my nurse has put me on dapagliflozin haven't started it yet though .
To join my already metformin and
glicazade low dose.
It's frustrating to say the least.

It’s not advised to combine dapagliflozin with a low carb diet due to the DKA risk

Oh I didn't realise that was so low carb .
I haven't started taking them yet as want to speak to drs first .
Thank you

Around 130g per day is usually what is advised with that medication and you don't look as if you are having anything like that. It does seem counter intuitive to take medication which needs you to have more carbs than you want but I would speak to your nurse.
As you are already taking gliclazide which has the risk of low blood glucose and also very low carb can be a problem.
Has it been considered you may be Type 1 if the oral meds and a pretty low carb diet are still not reducing blood glucose. It would be worth mentioning and asking for the tests to exclude that. C-peptide and antibody tests would be needed.

Is that likely after 9 years of being treated as Type 2? Is it not more likely that what's been working up until now is no longer effective?

Generally, regular meals are recommended with BG friendly snack in between if required.

I found that my levels continued to rise if I did not eat or if I ate only protein and fat for my first meal. Adding a tomato to scrambled eggs and cheese seemed to be enough to do the trick for me - but I am not on any medication for diabetes.

For me personally, the only thing that stopped DP was insulin. Eating or not eating didn't make a difference. I was similar to you in that I've been T2 for years and managed on metformin alone until last year when my Hba1c climbed from 50 to 87.
Sometimes our pancreas just can't manage anymore and need a bit of help.
