Hi, a recent HbA1c test came back as pre-diabetic (44mmol) which was a shock. I'm a 50 yr old male, no family history, don't drink alcohol, exercise regularly and have a BMI less that 20.5. What I have been 'guilty' of is eating too many flapjacks, often late at night and on waking in the AM. Also I've had a lot of stress over the last 2 years and my sleep has been poor. I have on reflection had some episodes of light-headedness and increased urination at night. I have a blood glucose monitor (my son has MCADD), so I have started recording the readings on waking and 2hrs after lunch and supper. I have also cut out all sugar and reduced carb sizings (sticking to wholegrain varieties), have a savoury breakfast more often than previous (which was always porridge or overnight oats) and stopped oat milk in my coffee. I don't eat bread as a rule. Thanks for the opportunity to post and be involved and any advice would be welcome.

Hi @Shevy welcome to the Forum 🙂 Glad you've joined us as I'm sure you will find lots of helpful information to help you in your mission to improve your health. Sounds like you're making a real effort and hopefully you'll soon see some improvements in your BG readings. Flapjacks are not your friends:(

Welcome to the forum @Shevy

Sounds like you’ve well and truly hit the ground running! Hopefully with the changes you’ve been making you should begin to see your BG results gradually falling over the next week or so.

Let us know how you get on 🙂

A review of your diet is usually a good idea when you get a diagnosis and you have made a good start but you may find some more useful ideas in the link and the explanation will dispel some myths about various foods. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/
It is based on the suggested no more than 130g carbs not just sugar per day, I'm afraid your flapjacks would constitute a fair few of those.
