Relationship to Diabetes
Hi,
I have been told that I am pre diabetic. I have an annual stroke review in December and have bloods taken in late November. When I actualy had the review I was told to make a GP appointment as my blood sugars were high, I made the appointment for January 7th. On January 4th I had to go to A&E with a severe UTI, whilst I was there and they did the finger prick I was asked if I was diabetic as the reading was 9.3. I had to cancel the appointment as I was still in hospital. Got another appointment and had to have another set of blood tests done, result was HBA1C was 47. Was told the IGR team would be in contact. I am 69 but not overweight.

A little bit of my medical history to let you know what might have led to this.
Pink disease (Mercury poisoning in teething powders) as a toddler, Ulcerative Colitis 1985, large bowel and some small bowel removed (now have a bag) 1993 leaving me with Epilepsy, Pan Proctectomy 1995, Urinary diversion 1997 due to bladder collapse, brainstem stroke 2007, pacemaker fitted 2010 due to 2 to 1 heart block. I have on average 4 UTI's a year due to kidney impairment.

Thanks for any adice,
Gerald

Not sure I can offer much advice but just wanted to say I hope you get some help soon. It sounds as have had a lot of problems.

Not much help here Gerald but did want to welcome you to the forum. Someone with more knowledge will be along soon I am sure.

I do know that Pink Disease (Google it), caised by Mercury poisoning causes lots of problems in later life, mainly with the imune system.
I have other problems caused by Pink Disease but a bit too numerous to mention.

Coooo! Never heard of Pink ~Disease before. Just spent a bit of time googling about it. Gosh! All from teething powders!

A warm welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have an awful lot on your plate! Have you had any indication as to what is happening next regarding your pre-diabetes - any further appointments/tests etc? Have they given you any dietary advice?
