Ok, so since being diagnosed I have cut out as much bad stuff as I possibly can.

The only sweet fruit I really eat now are pomegranates as I have read they are really good for diabetics.

What do others think? Is there someone with more knowledge that can tell me if this is indeed true.

Obviously in moderation, I don't go mad or anything. Just one of the pre packed packets (available from many main supermarkets) a day with my lunch

Welcome.
I have not eat a pomegranate since I was a child and used pick out the fruit with a pin. Which obviously took ages and they were only available a couple of months of the year.

The carb content is pretty much the same as apple and pear.

11.8g per 100g - Tesco's packets are 80g = 9.5g carb Apples are approx. 14g per 100g weight.

I'm another one who hasn't eaten a pomegranate since the old childhood pin days! They appear similar to other fruits, so the test would be to see how your blood sugar levels are affected after eating - some people tolerate some things better than others 🙂
