My colleague who is a new T2 has been advised by the nurse not to eat peanut butter. She didn't ask why not. I am curious. We thought it might be because of its fat content and cause cholestrol to increase. We looked around the internet and can only find that it is quite calorific but not a problem with cholesterol. Does anyone have any further guess why she was told that? My Diabetes nurse told me it was fine and I should make smoothies with avocado!! Not sure about that mix.

It’s likely to be the fat content , I am sorry to say that unlike many of us on here ,the nhs still has a downer on fats .
If your colleague needs to lose weight , it will be the calories too

Thanks, I didn't want to further confuse her with the advice I received from my diabetes nurse. Hopefully, once she feels a little better about her diagnosis she will join the forum

Peanuts have a whole lot of saturated fat, particularly compared to other nuts. I was using them to up my protein consumption, which was a dumb move - had a noticeable impact on my LDL cholesterol.

Almond butter is a better option (apart from the price!)

I suppose it's particularly bad if you eat the entire jar like me. 🙄 I daren't buy it.

Thanks, I did wonder if that was the reason.
