Relationship to Diabetes

Hello everyone,

I have been diabetic now since 2016 and am Metformin and Novomix 30 injections twice daily.
Recently I have hit a big slump and am no longer looking after myself. I am missing out medication for two to three days at a time and generally just feel like giving up. It does not help that I am needle phobic and yet none of the professionals I have spoken too can suggest a remedy.

To date I still do not have a good diet and gave up trying to find a diet plan that would work for me. My last HBA1c was 108 and I know that is not good. I struggle with mental illness which does not make the situation better. My apologises for the doom and gloom post but I am hoping that someone can offer me some support with a diet plan and maybe someone just to chat to, even if only on these forums.

Thank you

@Dai so sorry to read you're finding things difficult at the moment. I can't comment on your diet as i'm type 1 but have you had a look at the food/carb queries and recipes on a separate thread? There may be some inspiration for you there. Are you seeing anybody like a dietician or getting any help with your mental health?
You've come to the right place for support and chat. There are so many people on here who are helpful. There may even be someone who has felt as you are now.
Please don't give up and try to keep taking your meds.

Welcome @Dai 🙂 I echo Freesia in saying you’ll get lots of support here. We understand how hard diabetes can be.

You say you’ve hit this slump recently- can you think of any reason for this? A change of circumstances? Something happening or not happening? Did you do your injections regularly before?

Hi Dai,

So sorry to hear about the difficulties you're experiencing at the moment. Managing diabetes can be really tricky at the best of times so it's understandable that you feel this way.

Have you been able to take a look at our food section? We've got lots of recipes, meal plans and people who are going through a similar experience that may be helpful to connect with. https://forum.diabetes.org.uk/boards/forums/food-carb-queries-recipes.4/

Food and mood are linked for many people so please do consider getting support with your mental health. If I can signpost you anywhere or help in anyway, please feel free to message me.
