Hi yes it has slowed a bit, he’s lost 18lb in month and eating really healthy and plenty of exercise too....

Sounds to me that between you, you are doing well. Is testing difficult? If not, then a bit more testing to get a better picture of how his BG varies through the day might be a good idea to make sure he does not go too low, something you need to be wary of when taking gliclazide whilst reducing carbs.

Hi everyone, so about a month on meds and tested son’s BG few times, first 7.1 after breakfast, second time week later 4.9 before dinner, last night 5.2 after 2 course dinner in restaurant... would levels drop to this just on meds in such short time ? (Metformin 1000 am and pm and 1/2 gliclazide am 20mg)?

Sounds like you are dong really well @DebbieC - well done to you both for adapting to his diagnosis. Those BGs look great! If he starts having readings below 4.0 you may need to adjust either meds or carb intake slightly to keep things in balance, but 4.0-9.0 is the sweet spot for BGs IMO

As your son is less than half my age I'd expect that he is recovering faster than I did - I found my first meter yesterday and as it still switched on, I had a look through the numbers - I was definitely down into almost normal figures after eating, in a month.
You do need to watch it when Gliclazide is involved, as it actively lowers blood glucose - but you might find that test strips are removed from the prescription if it is no longer needed.

Hi @everydayupsanddowns thank you for your kind reply, I am hoping he can stop gliclazide soon as I worry that he may go too low but don’t want to up carbs to keep up with the meds... it’s early days and we are both still learning but he’s looking so much healthier now and eating really well... he still needs to lose about 2 stone to be healthy bmi but has lost 18lbs in 5 weeks so hope that’s helping too. It’s hard as he has learning disability and autism so I’m trying very hard to help him manage, but he has been a

Hi @Drummer , nice to hear from you and thanks for reply.... I am really hoping that the weight loss and low carb diet are driving this and fingers crossed that the gliclazide can be dropped... if they take strips off prescription no worries I’ll buy some ... hope you are well, will keep you all updated when he next has a check up and test...here’s hoping it’s good news as this has been such a stressful month ,
Best wishes Debbie

That sounds like great progress @DebbieC! Thanks for the update and hope you are pleased with the results of your upcoming blood checks. 🙂
