Type 2
Hi all

Before I was diagnosed with type 2 in November 2012 I was getting bouts of severe pain at the top of my stomach. I was given meds for acid reflux (proton pump inhibiters). I still get these severe pains occaisionaly if I've eaten a noticable amount of carbs or rich foods. I had sever pain last night that ended up across the centre of my back.(00:30 - 04:00)and was up trying to walk/work it off. I wasn't at home and had not taken any reflux meds with me. As soon as I'd made myself vomit the pain started to go and then I was able to return to bed exhausted.

Does any-one else get these types of pain and/or have acid reflux or pancreatitis?

I'm wondering if I've been misdiagnosed

When prescribing the drug, did your GP investigate any further? I had to have a gastroscopy to exclude the possibility of a stomach ulcer (I've had reflux since age 11). I didn't have an ulcer, and I've been on lansoprazole ever since. If ever I forget my morning medicines, my stomach reminds me by lunchtime!

I had fairly bad heartburn since I was in my teens (my mother also suffers from it). I used to get through a fair amount of antacid's in a day.

However...

At one point it got fairly bad and both work and home life was being stressful. I went to see the GP as the heartburn had got to the point that it was actually causing me to vomit occasionally as well as I was struggling to get rid of winter colds. The GP put me on a months course of Lansoprazole and since then I've only touched antacids twice.

The postscript to this is that at the same appointment that I was raising the issue of the heartburn I said to the GP, "Oh, could you also test me for diabetes since it runs in my family and I haven't been tested for a couple of years".

Sounds very like gallstones to me ?

Sounds like the very symptoms I had when my Gall bladder perforated -so possibly gall stone/bladder related. If you get someone to press on the right hand side of your upper back does it make you yelp? That was the test the A&E dept did on me followed by a scan to confirm.

I think a trip back to your GP is definitely on the cards - even if just for peace of mind.🙂 It could be one of many things and only further tests will tell, but definitely needs a visit. Hope you feel better soon.🙂

Go back to your doctor. I know very little about pancratitis but I have heard if you have it you'd be very ill.

I hope you are feeling better soon.

Its better not to speculate or hypothesise.

I had bad pain for one night which I put down to over eating / mild food poisoning. The doctor sent me for tests and 4 years later I had my pancreas out - But in the mean time I had no pain, no acid reflux, and did not become diabetic until they had whipped out the pancreas.

Thanks for all your helpful replies. I'll get someone to press on the right side of my upper back next time, Lucy123 just our of interest. Do you press with a palm or a thumb?

I'll also mention it when I have my next check up.
