So I'm just over a month in to my diabetic journey and still adjusting, but not quite as overwhelming as it was.

Finding BG readings can sometimes be erratic - one particular meal might not have any significant impact on BG, so I'll have the same thing the week after and instead of a meal rise of say 1 or 1.5, it'll go up 2.5 or 3. Not sure why it does this but guess it'll settle down.

Generally speaking, waking readings are around 8.5 but stay around 7.5 after I have eaten, bit like a mild Dawn Phenomenon. Not sure if I can stop this?

Since I went to 2000mg of Metformin I've had mild abdominal pain. Hoping this settles soon as it does seem to be effective.

Thanks for listening, just wanted to share.

Food isn't the only factor to effect BG, for instance you may have had a little more excercise/actvity the week it had less impact, you may have had less stress when it had a smaller impact, are you weighing to make sure it was the same portion sizes?

You could try a small chunk of cheese at bedtime to stop the DP, it works for some, but what are your levels like when your going to bed?
xx

Never considered stress and exercise. I do walk the dog several times a day but not really paying much attention to how vigorously I walk. And no, portion size isn't measured by weight, but by eye. Will get the scales out!

Bedtime is usually 7.5ish. Usually higher in the morning. One example, 7.8 at bedtime but 9.1 on waking. Will try cheese!

As Kaylz says, there's other factors. I gather the weather can have an affect for example. I always suggest food diarys and looking for patterns.

@Mark C everything effects BG lol, the weather, illness, exercise, stress, and scales are the way to go, I have no option but to weigh my foods that contain carbs though lol xx

I rarely have the exact same results with the same meals, and sometimes even with the same activity.
Sometimes the time of day can also have differnt affects.

... and of course, the outside temperature, ie the flippin weather!

Wind direction, day of the week, and for women, hormones too!

Sounds like you have made a terrific start @Mark C

The other thing to bear in mind is the precision (or otherwise!) of the monitoring equipment.

While meters are a LOT better than they used to be, there will still be some variation strip to strip, and depending on how scrupulous you are being with hand washing before BG checks (i am a serial offender in not following best practice guidance there) you may also have some slight interference from any traces on your hands.

So based on all the variables mentioned @Mark C you realise it is not an exact science.
All we can do is do what we can to make things as good as possible, and accept that other factors will come along and wobble things a bit (or a lot)

Having said that food intake is one things we can get a reasonable measure on. I still weigh things out to get to our target number of carbs. As labelled on packaging can be a bit of a muddle we have gradually made out own list of weights of our more common ingredients that deliver 25g of carbs. Then we can up it or lower it as necessary to hit our target of 30g for any meal. It is still giong Otto be a bit ‘ish’ but that is fine.
