That's an excellent idea! For a start, what are LADA and MODY?

In my wonderfully hypo state yesterday, whilst shaking like crazy, I decided it was vitally important to wash up, clean off the kitchen table, set the breadmaker going, and nearly took all the cans out of the cupboard to inventory them.

Well at least it was productive! :D

HAHAHAHA very true xx

humalog mix means??
and also what does DSN??

DSN - Diabetes Specialist Nurse (mostly made of awesome)

Humalog Mix will be a mixed insulin, using Humalog as (I believe) the bolus insulin. It's mixed Basal/Bolus insulin, so you don't need to do multiple injections, just the two

Ketones - waste products of DKA that show up in your urine. Generally not a good thing to have, although if you wake up in the morning and find really minor traces of ketones, it's probably not a problem, provided they go away.

Ketones are the by product of fat metabolism brought about either by starvation of by a lack of insulin because glucose cannot be metabolised by cells in the absence of insulin unlike fats. Ketone bodies are formed by the liver. the liver does this by putting excess Acetyl coenzyme A molecules and making pairs out of them. This is because the excess Acetyl coenzyme A cannot enter the citric acid cycle in the cell. This then forms acetoacetate which is then partially reduced to beta hydroxlybutyrate. The ketones are then released into the blood stream reducing the pH value dangerously in the case of diabetic ketoacidosis.

DKA - Diabetic Ketoacidosis. What happens when you haven't got enough insulin. It's another form of metabolism that primarily burns fat and muscle and makes your blood all acidic. Will be fatal if not treated.

Sorry, DKA isn't another form of metabolism. It's brought about by the metabolism of fatty acids in the place of glucose when starving or in the absence of insulin. I see where the confusion comes in as ketosis which mutates into DKA is formed as the by product of fatty acid metabolism.

MODY - Mature-Onset Diabetes of the Young. T2 in under-30s, usually the term is only applied to those who appear to have developed the condition purely through genetics.

Have to correct this one. MODY isn't type 2, although it does sound like it from the name. MODY is a type of monogenic diabetes. The WHO classifies diabetes as Type 1 (which includes LADA), type 2, and other specific causes. MODY is listed under other specific causes.
