after nearly 2 weeks still cannot shkae of this infection and be blown last week only started bypassing urine instead of the catheter taking it. i noticed each time though that my urine has been burning suggestive of a UTI infection. i was put on a general antibiotic but looks like i need something more specific.

telephoned 111 this morning and after what seemed like 20 plus options later i got stright through couldn't believe it, last time it took 2 hours for my partner then several hours of mucking around.

thankfully the bleeding has stopped now if it hadn't it would of been an a+e job.

Mikey - have you sent a sample to the lab to see exactly what's in it? If not, I'd like to think that could be something your GP could arrange for you.

That could be the way to identify a targeted approach to an infection.

if they do want a sample then it is possible for it to be done as i am under the district nurses and they are allowed to come and see me at home for obvious reasons. i will see what the doctor says when they ring.

my own doctors said that if things carried on that they were wanting me to see a urologist but that could mean invasive treatment and then there is the risk of more bugs getting in which wouldn't be good.

a bit embarrassing piddling in to pads day and night just wish it would stop. it does half burn when it gets going. you feel like talking high pitch.

i have spoken with the doctors service a prescription has been prescribed and they have requested a sample to be taken by district nurses. the concern is my urine drainage bags have been turning blue over night which is def not normal and suggests a bacterial bloom of some kind going on.

Would you be able to speak to the Doc's out of hours service? If it is romping on, then giving it a decent ignoring on the basis it's the weekend might not be the best or safest strategy.

i have spoken with out of hours today and they are wanting a urine sample was susposed to have the district nurses here but no sign of anyone another day of waiting and have to nip out first thing in the morning to hospital a teeth chattering experience hope the taxi has its heating on. some of them around are are sods for not having them on and you sit there shivering.

my own district nurses came this morning took sample, did temp which was fine. she thinks it is what they call a lingering virus just wish the bloody thing would go. it is causing terrible urinary incontinence at the moment did tell the nurse about it. she thinks once i am on a more specific treatment then that should hopefully settle down. never had an infection which has lingered.

UTIs can be really nasty things, and not something to take in a light hearted way. I don't say that to try to scare you, but I think sometimes we think it's just a little issue with the water works, when it really deserves respect.

Glad you're going to be having a culture done, as that should help with a targeted treatment, even if it means a couple of antibiotics, or a longer course. Best to really stick with this one now.

Fingers crossed for you.

many thanks andbreath, mike and jan. the nurse who came Sunday morning played heck with me and told me not to muck around basically with having both kidney and bladder infection if i get any serious pain to get off to a+e my worry is the virus running rife at the hospital where my partners life was taken away with the virus

have started the new specific antibiotic will give it a bit of time and if no joy then i know what the next stage is referal to urologists just hope it doesn't get that far

Good luck with it then! Hope it does work.

think the previous and new antibiotics are kicking in don't feel as sore inside, tummy is feeling better still getting a little urinary bypassing but not as servere thank god. just taken so long. i have endured 11 years of previous bouts but not for so long. think my immune system must of had a kicking just wondering what to boost it with now.

after a long drag of an infection something clearly not right so have an appointment at the doctors in the morning. interesting that the bladder is actually in the lower part of the tummy as she said 'i want them to examine you tummy' daft me said it is my bladder which is the issue not my tummy!
