Good morning. Wonder if anyone can explain the odd results I had this morning when testing. I know there is the answer here sonewhere but can't remember the thread. Here goes, I have porridge for breakfast and usually my blood sugar is between 6 .3 - 6.9. Quite happy
with that. I tested today and it went up to 7 3, a bit odd, so I waited a few minutes and tested again on a different finger, that returned 6.0. I decided the best of three and once again tested on the original finger and that returned a 6.3. Dodgy first stick? Finger not clean enough...? Any ideas.

The meters have a 15% margin of error @Sharron1 so it’s completely normal to get different results from different fingers or different results from a number of tests in a row 🙂

Ooh, that makes sense. Thank you

Hi @Sharron1 - I did a test of all 10 fingers (and thumbs) one after another a little while ago. What I found was that the range of values was such the precision implied by the number after the decimal point really is not justified and I vowed only to report blood glucose readings to the nearest whole number from then on.

So, i would report your results as 7, 6 & 6 and my results would suggest that there is little or no statistical significance in the differences between those numbers.

PS, not having a pop at testing far from it. My meter was instrumental in getting my BG under control. Brilliant for looking for spikes and seeing long term trends. Its just that you need to take care in interpreting individual readings.

PPS Don't recommend you do all ten fingers (and thumbs). I did it so you do not have to!

Wow, it is so tempting to do all fingers and thumbs. But I won't. However, if there is another lockdown and I am back to wfh...

You might find the grid of ‘from and to’ ranges at the bottom of this section useful @Sharron1

It shows just how ‘ish’ the results from our BG meters are allowed to be and still meet the legal requirements as a device.

Thank you!
