Just wondered if anyone has any good suggestions for snacks that are no/low carb?
Ratio is currently at 1:13 so anything up to around 10g I could (probably!) get away with.
Sometimes I find myself feeling hungry between meals and would like a snack but either can’t/don’t want to inject or risk stacking up insulin too much.
boiled eggs are 0 carbs and easy to cook, cool and keep in the fridge. Unprocessed chicken or turkey are generally 0 carb if plain, have with a little mayo - also 0 carb. They are a couple of things that spring to mind. I'm sure more suggestions will follow.
I used to snack on things like boiled eggs, bits of cheese or babybel's, peperami, salami etc but then I was avoiding carbs due to my eating disorder, there are a variety of protein bars available under 10g carbs, nature valley ones, Aldi's own brand boxed ones, you could have veg sticks, cucumber and peanut butter is apparently a good combo but then you may also be one of the unlucky ones that finds protein has an impact so as ever its just going to be a case of trial and error xx

I've never tried the cucumber and peanut butter combo, but I like it with celery sticks. Also carrots, but that's a bit higher carb.
Nuts and olives are other options.

No one has mentioned nuts
I have bags of unsalted plain nuts which I snack on between meals
Cashews and peanuts have slightly more carbs but I can get away with a handful of almonds, pecans, Brazils, walnuts and keep below the 10g threshold
However, if I eat no carbs, my body will break down the protein and my levels still rise so I would still inject.
If you have time to make things and then keep them for when you want a snack rather than buying ready made here are some ideas:
Celeriac crisps - use a potato peeler to peel thin slices (f you want them to look just like potato crisps you can carve the chunk of celeriac to take the corners off first) and then shallow fry them in olive oil or ghee until they crisp up and then sprinkle lightly with salt or other herbs to suit your tastes.
Cheesy crisps - grate cheddar and/or mozzarella or red leicester and then make little piles with some oregano or mixed herbs on a baking tray and then put in a hot oven or microwave until they melt and turn brown. Watch them so they don't catch. Let them cool and they will be crispy and crunchy. This also works with edam and leerdammer slices.

6. 1/3 of a carb killer bar if you need sweet, or a spoon of peanut butter topped with a spoon of creme fraiche....
7. 1 square of very very dark chocolate

10 marks and sparks toasted squid rings (mmm) 50 cal for half a pot.

Are pork scratchings good for diabetics? Pork scratchings contain very little sugar and are pretty much just protein, fat and salt, and so they can be fairly easy on your blood glucose levels, particularly if you just feel a bit peckish and don't want to mess around too much with insulin.

yes i do like eating them. i was happy they I was souping and found they had also obousllty no carbs(I'll admit had a bag last night and today probelly not the best for other reasons)
