I was diagnosed in a London hospital following a fall three weeks ago tonight; they were very thorough and the following day I had fleets of people by my bed, explaining everything to me, advising on diet, showing me how to test and inject etc etc.
Yes the whole thing is a massive pain, but you /we just have to get to grips with it, as our continued ability to function and even our lives may depend on learning how to manage our illness. So take a few deep breaths, bite the bullet, and try to be more Zen about the whole thing...
Don't expect to become an expert overnight; it's a complex disease and it seems no two people react the same way to treatment or to certain foods! My readings are still mostly in the teens after three weeks of this... but I'm doing a lot of research and I shall find my way around all these complexities. Without panicking!
If you really can't get any sense or help from your GP practice, it might be worth having a word with your local MP! If worried by something in particular, there's always A&E...
