My blood test showed 59 I'm on statins and now they are saying I probably have T2 diabetes. My dad was diagnosed a year ago. I'm daunted

I'm assuming that the 59 is your Hba1c result - so you are in the diabetic range, but if you are lucky as I was just by cutting down on carbohydrates you will be able to get lower blood glucose levels and put your Hba1c into the normal range quite quickly.
I went from Hba1c of 91 to 41 - normal - in 6 months, with very little effort.
As long as you are prepared to avoid potato and other starchy veges, grain of all sorts and fruits other than a small serving of low sugar berries, you will avoid spikes and the complications they bring.

Hi Pearl, welcome to the group :D as drummer has said you can make a difference by changing your diet, carbs are the bad guys, potatoes, rice and pasta are all high carb content and will spike those blood sugars. Bread is the other baddy especially white bread  many of us eat Burgen bread, a low carb bread that’s great for toast or sandwiches. Testing before and 2 hours after a meal will aalso help you to learn what does or doesn’t work for you. The first step though is to read, all you need to know can be found here so take your time, read the different threads and feel free to ask any questions :D

Welcome to the group, Pearl, As Drummer & Cathy have said, it's all about carbs

welcome to the group. i have also recently been diagnosed type 2 aswell. so its still all new to me aswell.

Welcome.🙂

HI and welcome to the forum.

Hello @Pearl Bartlett and a very warm welcome to you. It's understandable that you may feel a little daunted, but you have come to a good place. You will find plenty of helpful folk on here to, offer advice and impart their wealth of knowledge and experience, so if you have any any questions, just ask, there is no such thing as a silly question. There are some helpful links in the thread 'Useful links for people new to diabetes'. Take a look at the resources in the Type 2 section. There are a number of books and sites that have been recommended by members over the years so I hope you will find them useful.

Have you had a diagnosis from the GP? Or will they be doing a follow up test in 3 months time to see how your levels are?
If you are currently at risk of diabetes, but have not received a diagnosis, you may also find it helpful to read about reducing your risk of type 2 diabetes.
