Relationship to Diabetes

Hi there!I'm new to this support forum and just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I'm Emily, I'm 25 and have been type one diabetic for 16 years now since I was 8 years old. I have the medtronic minimed 670g pump and cgm with it which I'm incredibly grateful for and find it makes life with the condition easier .
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all and wondered if anyone knew of any zoom meetings going on regularly for type one's to chat and support one another? ☺️

Look forward to hearing from you soon and nice to find this support forum!

Hi Emily, can I suggest contacting your local Diabetes UK group to see if they are running member events/peer support over Zoom due to Covid-19.

Thank you Tim, I will look into doing that tomorrow. Thank you and nice to meet you!

Welcome to the forum @Em04

I am very interested in your idea of Zoom meetings. There have previously been forum meetings in different areas around the country, but those are not possible at present. I have found them excellent as it is so good to get together, help each other, but more than anything share the realities of having Diabetes and have a laugh together.

I do value the support that I get from others on here through the forum too. People just ‘get it’. When I hit a big low people here understood and could relate to the difficulties I was experiencing.
For me it was and still is the unending requirement to ‘just manage’. This doesn’t go away but I am now more often able to treat this as just what is normal. It is more difficult to explain this to ‘muggles’.

I found that the local groups that are around me are very much focused on T2 and also of a very much older age profile. I am aware that there are some T1 specific groups elsewhere.

Stay in touch.

Welcome to the forum Em

Only thing I know of is one Zoom meetup for a diabetes support group (both T1&T2) normally based in Yorkshire

We`re a friendly bunch, look forward to reading about your diabetic Journey.
We all share our own journeys, the ups and downs, problems, no problem.

Thankyou for joining the forum, great to have you onboard, stay safe.

Thank you so much! Lovely to be apart of this group. I found out a bout it last night in a diabetes UK zoom meeting about mental wellbeing and they mentioned this as a great way to meet others with the condition as I have been feeling very alone with it and struggle with my anxiety in social situations a lot of the time but want to try and get out my comfort zone! ☺️

So glad that you picked up on this Em
As you can see already there is plenty of support around.

Hi Em and welcome from me too.

I found diabetes training courses were a great opportunity to make contact with other Type 1 diabetics and I have kept contact with some through that but this forum is invaluable because the range of experience and knowledge is second to none and we all learn from each other.
I think it is a great idea to have a Zoom meet up but sadly my current hardware will not manage it. Hopefully once I get myself psyched up to upgrade my PC, we may meet virtually and I will look forward to that!

Pump twins! Welcome to the forum. What do you like about 670g? :D

Happy Pump twins! I really love it ! I love the fact that the sensor will cut the insulin supply automatically if I am too low and increases insulin when too high. I feel so much more secure since having it! What about you? 🙂

I love it, I find it so helpful that I don't have to basal test ^^.

Hi @Em04, how are you getting on?
I look forward to seeing you at the Zoom meet up if you can make it.
