Hey Guy's, so i have recently been diagnosed with T2 Diabetes. I have had No symptoms and if it were not for a blood test for something else would never had known so i guess i am fortunate? lol. I like to eat Aldi's Fruit n Fibre with a handful of extra unts & dried fruits such as sultanas & cranberries, is this ok or should i choose something else, drop the dried fruit etc etc. I really like this and often have this as a breakfast and a lunch then have a vanilla/coconut Greek yoghurt for my tea. Also is Tesco's Oat & Barley sliced loaf ok as a bread once in a while?
Thank you

Welcome to the forum Roodini from a fellow T2.
I'd suggest self testing to see what effect food has on you.Keep a food diary, along with a record of your levels. Thay way you can look for patterns.
Personally I avoid all breakfast cereals.

Hi @roodini and welcome. Same thought as the others, the things you have mentioned would not do me any good either.

That's enough of the negative, so to help us with positive ideas, do you want to tell us how you came to be diagnosed and if there is anything else that needs to be taken into account?

Welcome to the forum @roodini

I used to hope that the mention of ‘fibre’ might really help in that cereal, but like others I am afraid that it was horrendous for me, and I reckon that is one really for folks with a fully functioning pancreas. :(

To be sure you could get a BG meter and check before and again 1-2hrs after eating to see what the effect on your BG is?

But it would be a bit of a surprise if it didnt cause your BG a pretty hefty spike I‘m afraid :(

If you'd like to check what effect this (and any other!) foods have on your levels the most affordable meters members here have found are the SD Gluco Navii or the Spirit Tee2 - which both have test strips at around £8 for 50

Let us know how you get on 🙂

Unfortunately. 2 sultanas = 10g of carbohydrate, less raisins cos they're bigger, more than 7 currants cos they're smaller. Clueless about dried cranberries, can't imagine they'd be much lower though. With diabetes you would honestly find egg and bacon easier to assimilate less harmfully at any time of day.
