Hi Jillybean,
Welcome on board the bus that nobody really wants to join, but we're all fairly friendly once you get on board. Making those diet changes is a vital first step, plus exercise is also important, as that makes the insulin your body produces more effective, which ultimately helps to keep your BG levels low. Finding the right foods that work for you will be important, and I've also got around to experimenting more with different foods, and finding out what I can still enjoy that doesn't affect me too much. I do like to go out for meals, and most curry houses have options that aren't too bad, I find I can still have a basmati rice portion with the curry, although I'm not going to try the naan. Poppadums don't seem to do too much though.
My eyes settled down after around two to three weeks, although my eyesight seemed to improve quite a bit, which meant I had to take off my glasses for computer work, but I agree it is very disconcerting and made me question what I was seeing and if I was only imagining a difference. It did ultimately settle down again, and now I'm back to wearing the same prescription for the same tasks.
