Hi Jillybean,

Welcome on board the bus that nobody really wants to join, but we're all fairly friendly once you get on board. Making those diet changes is a vital first step, plus exercise is also important, as that makes the insulin your body produces more effective, which ultimately helps to keep your BG levels low. Finding the right foods that work for you will be important, and I've also got around to experimenting more with different foods, and finding out what I can still enjoy that doesn't affect me too much. I do like to go out for meals, and most curry houses have options that aren't too bad, I find I can still have a basmati rice portion with the curry, although I'm not going to try the naan. Poppadums don't seem to do too much though.

My eyes settled down after around two to three weeks, although my eyesight seemed to improve quite a bit, which meant I had to take off my glasses for computer work, but I agree it is very disconcerting and made me question what I was seeing and if I was only imagining a difference. It did ultimately settle down again, and now I'm back to wearing the same prescription for the same tasks.

Just before my diagnosis my eyes really started playing up and I was getting quite short sighted (couldn't see distance, especially at night). After DX my BG improved but then I got long sighted as well.
For a few days I was in a pretty unhappy place as I could only see clearly if something was about 18inches from my face!
Glad to say after a few weeks things improved and now both are pretty much back to normal.

The day after I was diagnosed my vision started getting quite blurry which worried me a lot. I have to wear glasses most of the time now as opposed to just when I read. I have read on here that this might improve once the blood sugar levels are lower?

Hello Jillybean,

I had the burry eye sight thing and mentioned it to my optician, they suggested it could be a bit of dehydration of the eye, due to my air-conditioned office, and the lens is becoming dry and suggested a simple eye drop or mist.
I just went along to a Boots and picked up the Dry Eye mist. Once sprayed over the eye, immediately the blurry vision would clear.
Now I have my BG under control I find I never use it, but it was a must in the beginning.

One strategy a lot of diabetics use for Breakfast is to prepare some Hard Boiled Eggs for the week & have them during the week as a zero carb Breakfast, personally I don't eat Breakfast.... Lunch was a pre-packaged (store bought) salad (9 carbs); often it's just deli meat, cheese & lettuce wrap (easy for me as I work out of my house)..

I never used to eat breakfast until now. It was recommend that I have three meals a day. My dosage of Metfomin is one three times a day with meals, so i make the effort to have something. I still need to get in the habit of carb counting! I like eggs a lot and been having scrambled or a one or two egg omelette with chopped spring onions and a chopped tomatoe, sometimes a slice of chopped bacon, either for lunch or breakfast.
My meter readings was in the range of 7.5 today so not much different from yesterday. I give the hard boiled eggs cooked in advance a go too!:D

Thats good Pilot. I'm pleased to hear that people have been reporting of the vision returning back to normal after a while. Everthing is a blurr right now. It seems I'm short sighted at the moment and I'm normally long sighted:confused: I'm looking forward to the day they get better (fingers crossed).
