Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, just joined as I have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Currently monitoring my BG levels twice a day before going back to the nurse on Monday. A wide variety of readings from 8.0 to 14.6 but it seems to have settled at the 8.0 range at the moment.

I will be looking for inspiration from other members, insights into changing food and lifestyle etc so look forward to chatting to you all.

Richard

Hi @Richard65 welcome to the forum. Feel free to ask questions about diabetes we’ll do our best to help.
It’s good to hear you are testing yourself . Their is a method of testing to find out how the various carbohydrates affect us
Have a read through test-review-adjust by Alan S.

You’ll find loads more info and a link to a much recommended book by Gretchen Becker who has T2 herself and goes through month by month her first year after Dx (Diagnosis)
useful-links-for-people-new-to-diabetes.
I suggest you start with Test review adjust.
Maggie Davies letter
If your having problems with self testing , ie not getting enough blood ou, then
Read, Painless pricks . Adlso by Alan S .
For future reference you’ll find the above and more in the thread mentioned above which is at the top of the newbies forum.

Their is a common misconception that T2 is all about cutting out sugar, it isn’t it’s the fast acting carbohydrates of which sugar is one., that our bodies can no longer handle too well. Things like potatoes esp mashed, rice, pasta, bread esp white, fruit juice is full of fructose (a type of sugar) grapes are the same.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have them , just cut down on them and see what your meter says , till you find good substitutes ,their are plenty of them, fill up on veg that grows above ground , we often have to be careful with fruit.

Just to get you started
We usually have no problems with protein and this is probably going to supprise you, good fats , so if you eat meat, meat is fine including high meat content burgers and sausages, eggs, milk, cheese, cream, butter, mushrooms, many of us tolerate berries better, some nuts are low in carbohydrates
This lis is not exhaustive.
Why not come and see what we eat
what-did-you-eat-yesterday

We have some innovative cooks who put their recipes here

I hope you find the above helpful

Welcome Richard, @Ljc has covered it all, the only thing I would add would be to keep a food diary as you test, it’s a great way to see how your body is reacting to different foods so you can tweak and test again :D

Hi Richard, just adding my greeting!
