Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi, just joined the site, I am a type 1 diabetic (16 years now) and I manage my diabetes using a basal-bolus regime (novorapid and glargine insulins). I pretty much eat whatever I like and have ratios to calculate how much to inject - I test my blood 5-7 times a day. I think I manage my condition pretty well, but as ever, I'm willing to learn how to improve from learning new ideas.

I wanted to join up since I don't know any other diabetics and the only folks I talk to about the daily diabetic travails are the docs and nurses, conversations which usually end up in me coming up with ideas of what I should do next!

I guess the biggest effect of having diabetes is that I struggle to stick to a daily routine and find that I sleep in sometimes after staying up late to get my sugars right. I get away with coming into work late because I work at a University and don't have an angry boss to demand that I'm there at 8am every day!

Anyway, enough from me for now, looking forward to chatting with anyone and everyone :D

Hi Lumination, welcome to the forum!🙂 Sounds like you've got things pretty well sorted, but it's certainly true that you never stop learning with this! I know what you mean about those without diabetes not really 'getting it', even if they are healthcare professionals who have been trained to understand it - it's not the same thing! That's why this place is great - we have a lot to share and a lot in common.

About 15 of us all met up last Saturday in London - it was great!🙂

Hi Lumination welcome to the forum.

I think you'll find everyone here friendly and a good sorce of advice.
If you need to ask a question about anything the chances are that someone here will be able to answer it.

All the best.

Hi Lumination!

Nice to have you on the forum, welcome! 🙂

Hi there, and welcome to the forum. It's a great place for getting your questions answered (doesn't sound like you'll need to worry about that, lol, sounds like you've got it all sussed!) but also or a chat, a laugh, a rant or a moan. A very helpful and friendly bunch hang out in these here parts, lol.

xx

Welcome!

Hi ilumination - I have had T1 diabetes for 35 years - and like you only ever talked to docs and nurses - which is why I approached Diabetes UK about starting this board! There are a lot of us out there - but we seem to not know each other 😉. I don't think you ever stop learning about it! Look forward to your posts x
