So pleased you are OK this morning and levels have come down a little. Was it Ketostix you got to test for ketones that you dip in your urine?
It might be helpful to know that you should be testing for ketones when your levels are persistently above 14, so definitely test now and keep testing every few hours whilst you are that high. Ketones can develop really quickly and become very dangerous. Yes if you are a genuine Type 2 steroid induced or whatever, it is unlikely, but with the additional symptoms you were experiencing last night, you really can't afford to ignore the potential risk. It is much less of a worry now knowing that you have a means of testing for ketones. Any reading above 1 seek medical help.
They really should be increasing your insulin dose to help bring your levels down as it is almost pointless using insulin if you continue to have massively high levels like that so do talk to your nurse or doctor about adjusting the dose and let them know how ill you were feeling and the symptoms you were having.

Hi Babara, yes got ketosis this afternoon, I'm still Hi just took 20units to try and bring down BG, I'm at a loss I'm really not sure what to do, I'm very thirsty peeing a weird smell have a smelly taste in mouth and hurting in abdo but no ketones just normal so that's good, next diabetic review with nurse Monday, no longer on steroids for asthma, so I'm a bit confused as I feel in general at times today. Thank you so much for helping me out.

Goodness @BigMumma

What a tricky time you’ve been having!

Keep drinking plenty of water, particularly in the hot weather, and do keep an eye on ketones.

Hope things begin to settle now that your course of steroids has completed.

Spent around 18hrs in hospital with the sugars and how I was feeling, was given some fast acting insulin, it came down a bit but is still high, but at least I can monitor and humilin pen dose has increased to help, thank you Barbara for your help and to everyone.

So sorry that you needed that hospital visit but relieved that you have had medical support and increased insulin. How much have they increased your Humulin. Did they give you some fast acting insulin to bring home and use to help bring your levels down when they are very high? Please update this thread with your progress. What sort of readings are you getting now. Have they given you guidance on what to do if they go really high again?
That hospital visit could have been avoided if you had been better supported by your health care professionals.
Really hope you start to get some much better BG numbers and feel better soon. Sending (((HUGS)))

Hey Barbara, so I'm on 45 total for the day 30u am 15u pm, not a lot of conversation at the hospital with diabetic staff, just a increase then check with gp and nurse next week, on antibiotics? Infection pancreas or gallbladder hense abdo pain, not DKA. No fast acting insulin at home just humilin and sitagliptin. Got hypo kits ready! All is good just awaiting a scan.
