Type 2
Hiya, I was diagnosed yesterday as type 2, no medication given advised to try diet first, have another appointment in 3 weeks with the diabetic nurse, I have a massive sweet tooth so this aint going to be easy, but got to give it a go, if anyone has any advice i would really appreciate it

Thankyou

First up welcome, Its not easy to take in, we all know that here, for the next 3 weeks you have an opportunity to learn as much as you can, and formulate any questions that may arise from that, I would always suggest taking someone with you for that next appointment with a pen and pad, if you cant then you take the pen and pad. its so hard to remember all that's said. Anyway good luck on your journey there's lots of help here. Al

Hi and welcome Redpoppy - don't talk to me about sweet tooth! I have my fillings done by Cadbury's *sigh*

It is a great change in diet and lifestyle - I have had a chocolate once - Christmas Day - not had one since - Oh hang on - Aldi bunny on Easter Sunday

Once you get your head round the fact that you are eating to improve your health you will find it much easier.

I used to eat whole packets of cherry bakewells in one sitting!😱 It's amazing what a diagnosis of Type 2 can do for your sweet tooth.🙄 I will invent a sugar free low carb cherry bakewell soon.🙂

Hi redpoppy

Hello Redpoppy,
I'm a newbie too, I know how overwhelmed you must be feeling, I'm only just starting to get used to the idea. Tough times ahead but we have some great support here on the forum 🙂

I eat chocolate most days, but it is 1 of 2 squares of 90% choc, which you can learn to love! Very low carb and makes me feel I am not missing out. Also, if I sm going to have a treat, for example a pudding on a meal out, I get it and immediately cut in half and either get it boxed up, give it away. I couldn't leave half of it, but without that half there, I don't miss it. I then eat the pudding as slowly as I can and really concentrate on it. I take note of the lovely flavours and textures and appreciate it, as opposed to shovelling it down while chatting away. I swear I enjoy it more than my fellow diners (that's what I tell myself anyway...)

Welcome Redpoppy. You can eat most things as long as you burn it off 🙂. A good thing to remember (like the name !)
