hello . I had to create a new account as I couldn’t remember any of my old info. Type 2 for 12 years. 56 yrs old. Currently using a Dexcom one+ CGM that i stumped up and bought a 3 month supply of. Just wanted to say it is a game changer for me managing my numbers. I know that they aren’t available for type 2s, but they really should be. My GP said that if they were to prescribe it for me then it would flag up on the system and they would be reprimanded. However,. If i can prove that by wearing it my HbA1c falls to normal levels then they could argue a case for prescribing it.

Hi @Delacey1968 and welcome (again!) to the forum - glad you are finding that a CGM helps, and great that your GP is open to arguing the case if you can prove it has prompted some positive changes - good to hear they are thinking outside of the box 🙂

Hi and welcome back.

Would you like to tell us what if any medication you take for your diabetes?

I ask because there are circumstances where, if you are on insulin as a Type 2 they can prescribe it but it helps to know the NICE guidelines on that so that you can argue your case based on those guidelines and quote them, but if not on insulin, then you are extremely unlikely to be successful getting it prescribed and to be honest once your learn from it which foods/meals cause too dramatic an increase in levels and develop a repertoire of meals which your body can cope with then just some occasional finger pricking should be all you need to test new foods/meals and keep an eye on things.

Many of us who are Type 1 had to self fund for some considerable time before we got them prescribed so can sympathise with the financial hit and also relate to how life changing they can be.

Hi there and welcome back, even if it’s under a new account!
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Dexcom One+, it's really encouraging to hear how much of a positive impact it's had on your diabetes management. You're absolutely right, CGMs can be real game changers in helping people better understand how their bodies respond to food, activity, and medication in real-time. It’s such a powerful tool, and it’s a shame that access is still so limited for people.
It’s also great that your GP is open to potentially making a case based on your results - fingers crossed that your HbA1c reflects all the hard work and insight you've gained from using the CGM! That could really help them advocate for continued access on your behalf.
Please do keep us posted on how things go and well done again for taking such a proactive step in your own care.
