@Cate1
I'm still with you on the emotional roller coaster .... 4 months in!
When I was first 'branded' my BP was also high, not just slightly high! .... along with all my other stats. I made it VERY clear I wanted to be free of any medication if possible .... and 4 months on - I still am and as you can see below my stats are all good ... in fact whilst not listed my BP is a tad on the low side now!
How long I can 'ward this off' for I don't know - but will give it my best shot!
Being a complete amateur at this my understanding is that Statins will help control Cholsterol not so much BP, that is different medication, and that the Metformin will help reduce your BS levels over time.
Good luck on Thursday ..... do what is right for YOU!

So glad you're feeling more positive and taking steps (both figuratively and literally) to manage your BG levels and your general health. It's all good news. 🙂

It's been a while since I have had free prescriptions because of diabetes as I now get them free because of my age. I do know the rules have changed .
You are still entitled to free prescriptions! , I hope others who know what needs to be done will be along soon.

You will need to get a Medical Exemption certificate, the Dr's should give you a form that they need to fill part in and send off on your behalf, you will then get a card through the post which is valid for 5 years and you will need to renew is when it runs out. If you do get charged before your card comes through get a receipt and you should be able to get a refund.

My PN tried to 'sell me' that one of the 'benefits' of going into Metformin was that I would be entitled to free prescriptions!!!! ... I graciously declined and said I was more than happy to pay for what (thankfully) negligible meds i ever need! ..... and pray I stay that way!

Being diabetic gives you the entitlement to free prescriptions not being on metformin. I dont take metformin, but get free prescriptions. And its any prescriptions not just diabetes related.

I've learned something new, Thanks.

I've just checked the NHS website and it states that anyone diagnosed with Diabetes mellitus IS entitled to a medical exemption certificate 'EXCEPT where treated by diet alone'.

I assume from that there is no entitlement for the likes of me!

Interested to know why there is this anomaly @Stitch147 for you??

I am on different medications not metformin for mine, so maybe thats why. I was given the form at my first appointment with the Dr after diagnosis.
