New member T2 with insulin

Hi, I’ve just started on insulin pens for T2 , basal and rapid, one week in, anyone going through the same ? Kath

Hi @Kathy27 . Welcome to the forum . Actually their are a lot of T2s that need insulin, so you are in good company .
what insulin’s are you on and how are you getting in with it.
Have you been in insulin long .

Back in 2016 , when they still thought I had T2 , I was put on a Basal and bolus regime just like you have . I did learn eventually to alter my doses of rapid for the amount of carbs I was going to eat and to be honest though their are a few cons with insulin , it made my diabetes life much easier and due to the small doses I needed it lead me to being diagnosed with a different type of diabetes instead .

We can’t advise on insulin doses except in a very general way as firstly most of us have no medical training and we don’t know you .

Would you mind telling us a little more about your diabetes, things like you last Hb1ac
How long you have been diagnosed .

I’m also t2 with basal and rapid insulin, using carb counting to adjust doses. Are you on fixed doses or adjusting to your meals?

Hi , I’m carb counting and finding my level on carbs per unit, I’m ok with that but dn wanted to put me on a fixed amount I said no I rather be more specific, adjusted my basal tonight on advice as looks like I’ve been taking too much, dn did say I might be able to manage with just rapid today so will have to see how it goes, only my 6th day , anxiety out the roof !

As already asked @Kathy27 - which actual brands of insulin have they prescribed ? - helps us to help you when needed - although Type 1s are never normally prescribed 'mixed' insulins, Type 2s often are and in any case different brands of insulin all have their own individual characteristics - eg some of the faster acting, 'mealtime' ones have a 'sting in their tail' so have a burst of activity towards the end of their active life and others, don't.

Hi , I am taking Levemir basal , just dropped down to two units in the evening and did not have any lows last night , Novorapid with meals units based on carbs, doing ok but feel it’s going to take sometime for my body to get used to all this .

Yes it will take time .
And one thing you will discover is, that nothing to do with diabetes stays the same for long , you see diabetes can’t read so it doesn’t know the rules it should follow lol.

When I encounter problems that I can’t wuickly sort out Unless it’s clearly obvious it’s my Novorapid ,
I suspect my Basal.
An illness that my body knows about but I don’t .
Oh heck it will be easier if I post this thread

I'm almost joined at the hip to Novorapid, which doesn't have anything intrinsically weird about it - and we mostly all love Levemir too because ditto - it absolutely does not hang around doing what it does, and is so very easy to adjust doses of. So - good!

Next question - how long ago were you diagnosed T2, and have they ever done any other blood tests to establish how much of your own insulin you actually produce - I'm just wondering if you might be LADA rather than T2 ......
