New here

You mention insurance not covering medication, so can I assume you are not in the UK and treated under the NHS. People are very welcome from other parts of the world but it helps to know this information because medications and protocols can be surprisingly different in other countries.

You comment about having symptoms after eating makes me wonder if you might need Creon?
Would you like to tell us a bit about how your initial Type 2 diagnosis came about? Just wondering if you might be Type 3c rather than Type 2 and perhaps if you need Creon (Pancreatic Enzyme supplement) but don't take it, it might explain why your levels are so variable. I appreciate that I may be way off the mark with that thought, but it just floated through my head so thought I might as well mention it.
Nope. I'm in Canada. My insurance is pretty good but not everything gets covered under it.

I think it was very weird the way my diagnosis went but I don't know how others are diagnosed.
I dont have a family dr so I go to walk in clinics. And was at one talking with an online camera dr one day. He said I'd venture to say that you have diabetes. But I am not in your city so I cannot prescribe you insulin. So I just assumed it was type 2. Nothing was done at that time. A few months later a different dr started me on a med and it just went from there. 4 meds later and a hospital visit from. A bad reaction later someone finally got me on insulin. So im,not actually sure what type. Dr's just assume I'm type 2. So idk.
And the insulin I was on did work and helped alot with no weight gain. But then the newer ones came out and it was discontinued and I had to start using the newer ones (glargine and novorapid) gaining more than 50 pounds despite any and all exercise daily. Then they were cut out of my insurance plan causing a change again to a cheaper glaragine and trurapi.
The newer ones just won't work for me.
My after eating symptoms are severe 'runs' for up to 5 hours. So I only eat once at night (around 5pm) so I can still go out during the day as needed. O and the reason for the soup is no teeth and no help for dentures.
I hope I answered your question.

Again this is where basal bolus with ratios not set doses would help. If your ratios are set right it doesn’t matter how varied your diet is, you just bolus according to what you’re eating right then.
Do I need to do the basal test first be4 the ratio tests?

Can you batch cook meals and freeze in meal size portions. Can you get 'wonky' veg and fruit as they are often cheaper.
I don't know what supermarkets you have but some so veg of the week offers.
Yes. I do sometimes.
Our wonky veges are half price and you must cut at least half off that's rotten and slimy. And the half price amount is mostly more than I have for 1 days food.

That doesn't sound like a good deal then, our wonky veg are normally ones that are misshapen or small fruit as in strawberries but still good quality.
I hadn't realised you were in Canada where things are probably very different, though I had always thought health care was pretty good from what my other half's brother who lives in Canada has said.

I had a feeling diarrhoea after eating was the problem. Have you ever had gall bladder problems or pancreatitis?
Are you losing weight at all? Just wondering if you are getting enough nutrition from just 2 cups of soup a day, especially if my suspicion is correct and you are perhaps lacking digestive enzymes.

If you are one of the luckier people it is a good system. But once a person is in poverty nothing falls into place properly.

Idk . I barely get to see a dr if in pain. One night I spent 12 hours in er in kidney pain and nothing was done. Not one test. Nor physical exam. I have a history since a child with kidney infections and stones as an adult. So I have no idea what's wrong.

I did lose 50 plus pounds but I believe it was due to a mouth surgery a few years ago.

Really sorry to hear that you feel so hopeless about things improving. You really should be getting medical help for such bad diarrhoea after eating, especially when that means you only dare eat once a day and you surely must not be getting the full nutrients from that food if it is passing through you so quickly.

I've basically become hopeless about getting help or having improved health.

So sorry to hear how down you have been feeling, and how multiple conditions are impacting your health and wellbeing.

I just wanted to check - are you taking separate mealtime insulin alongside your basal?

It should be possible to balance your insulin for only eating once a day if that's your preference, but the basal insulin in that case would only be covering your 'background' needs. Ideally keeping you steady +/- 30mg/dl (1.7mmol/L) through the day and night. Then your separate mealtime 'bolus' insulin would be taken for any meal or snack you have. Is that the system you are using?

Yes trurapi with meals.
Toujeo as my basal.
Along with metformin and ozempic.

Yes it should go that way. But it wasn't in the cards for me.

I wonder if it is the metformin which is aggravating your stomach issues as some people cannot tolerate it at all as it gives them severe diarrhoea.
It's likely aggravating it. As I just began metformin 1 month ago but have had the digestive issue for at least 3 years.

The worst part of the meds- insulin especially- is that the side effects are bad. So I'm having to choose --- do I have the leg pain and cramps waking me up and difficulty climbing my 13 step stairs multiple times a day - side effects now and stay stuck in a chair or do I lose a leg later? And for what? My numbers are not better.
