Hello all , I’m a bit all over the place at the moment and I don’t understand why I would need a medication/insulin to do with weight loss and lowering blood sugar levels to be honest . I’m guessing it might be because on my dads side they struggled to loose weight ?? When I did my Telehealth appointment I went from 79.3kg up to 80kg but that was because of been from eating or drinking water , I weighed myself off my own scales and I’ve gone down to 78.8kg or 78.6kg doing exercises and eating properly do I really need this medication ??? Or can I somehow convince the doctor that I don’t need it right now ??? My other question is can I get off this medication/insulin ? Or am I stuck with it like for life ? Sorry for the questions , I know I may seem positive and my head is on straight most of the time but really I’m just all confused and just worried that’s all .

I don't think those weigh variations are anything significant as the volume of liquid in a standard can of coke would weigh 0.3kg and weight will vary by a few hundred grams depending on whether you have been to the loo or had a glass of water plus lots of other factors.

Sorry to hear you are struggling @Jacinta (Australian) :(

I thought your telehealth appointment had gone well, and the nurse was really pleased with you?

I don’t think it is an insulin that has been suggested - wasn’t it a different injectable (Ozempic) that you were being offered?

And are you still wanting to lose some weight, but it is your needle phobia that is putting you off?
It did , yes ozempic and the other one is starting with E , everyone is giving me mixed everything atm and I’d hope I can loose at least between 70-75 . Yes very much so , I hate having needle phobias .

Empagliflozin?

Empagliflozin?
Yes that’s the one Thankyou lucyr . So to understand and try not to freak out what’s ozempic and Empagliflozin ?? All my nurse told me was trying to understand why I can’t do a paper thin needle even though it’s a once a week injection and that if I do it it goes straight through , then if I do the tablet form it comes in waves . All I got told it was it helps with weight and lowers blood sugars along with metrofirm . I’m sorry I’m just overwhelmed again and confused and frustrated . I was talking to mum last night and she is pretty much saying that once I’m on medication / insulin I won’t be able to come off it ??

That’s how I see it .

You don' seem to have had any explanation of what those medications are and how they work to enable you to make an informed decision about whether to agree to take or not.
Hopefully somebody familiar with them will come along and be able to give you some info about them.

Pretty much leadinglights , that’s why I’m confused on everything and to why exactly I need them . I hope so it would help to make me less confused . My nurse seems to think I need it and I’m kinda against it cause we’ll yeah I don’t know what it is or how it works or anything .

I think you are making good steady progress without those medications and you seem to have really got your head around low carb eating so I would be saying to your health care professionals that, since you are making good progress, why not give you longer to continue with that and if after 6 months you haven't hit an agreed and achievable target weight then you will reconsider the medication.
If you weren't doing so well and were struggling and frustrated I think it would be reasonable to start you on medication, but when you are motivated and doing well with dietary changes and exercise then I think they are jumping the gun by pushing medication at you..... but I don't know your medical history and can only go off what you post here.

Thankyou so much for that rebrascora , this will be defianetly my bargain point . My doctor will hopefully will see it from my point so I don’t have to start on it .

Hello Rebrascora
I went to my doctor earlier and she spoke through all the things that the specialist spoke about , and she asked if I had any concerns and I kindly asked if I can do this without ozempic and Empagliflozin at least until 3-6 months to see if I could possibly do it then if I need help then I’ll go on it and she totally agreed with me and she said cause I’m doing well with everything we will review at my next hb1ac which is in September . My doctor also put up my metrofirm to 2 at night which makes it 1000mg instead of 500mg as what my specialist requested .

That sound like a good outcome and you can put the worry over it to the back of your mind for now and focus on the things you are doing which are being successful.

I am pleased that my doctor is extremely understanding and actually listens to my concerns plus explains everything possible , Thankyou so much for that leadinglights I appericate it ,

my ouchie + glucose meter came tonight so I’ll be starting to check the levels out but I’ll start it tomorrow , as tonight I’ll be focusing on taking 2 metroform tablets and seeing if the affect will bring back side affects or not .

Whilst you are diabetic, I'd have thought that the target was good levels of blood glucose.
Medication and nagging about your weight might work for some - but I got no help at all and found that the medication was not appropriate and my weight just quietly went away whilst I was busy elsewhere.

I still eat low carb foods after over 4 years now, I have not put on weight during that time, and I am in remission - but sometimes I feel really guilty about how easy it has been for me. All I have done is not push up my BG levels by eating the wrong things, and I eat the fats which come with the choices I make. I do use small amounts of olive oil and butter - but very small amounts.

Metformin can have rather drastic consequences - I'd be very reluctant to take it late in the day as it always went straight through me and caused fairly explosive incontinence. It was bad enough in late afternoon after taking the tablet at lunchtime, for it to happen in the middle of the night could be unpleasant.

Surprisingly it hasn’t really done much side affects on me when I’m sleeping now that im on 2 , it only gave me a mad naseaur headache without much more then just that and it gives you that poop feeling only this morning then that’s it there’s nothing after that. I have them with food to make it easier on the stomach and I have to be extra careful as I have ibs , but with metformin it hasn’t done hardly anything to my ibs like at all . If anything what I have done so far I think has helped my ibs , I’m not bloated like I use to and I’m not always consitpated , I think going on low carb actually helped me out massively . I looked over the low fodmap but anything on that would kill my ibs and literally make me go to the toilet non stop .

You are lucky that you can take the tablets - I tried all ways to take them but it always ended the same way....
I have seen people reporting that eating low carb really helped their ibs, and that their gut had been really happy about the change.
