My weight loss and T2D journey

Today is the start of week five, can't believe I've already done one third of the course, only two thirds to go!
We can do this...... 😎

You are doing amazingly @pjgtech

You must be very pleased with how it’s going <3

Yes I am pleased, but can always do better. Had a wobble yesterday and had a small salad! so I strayed from the very strict diet, but only slightly. Not going to beat myself up about it, I feel sure everyone who does the 12 week diet must have a wobble every now and again. Back on the shakes today, keep focussing on the bigger picture.... 😎

Day 36 (wk6) of the T2D Pathway to Remission (12 wk) program:
Weight = 94.7kg (total weight loss = 9.3kg or 20+lbs)
Weight loss has slowed from the initial very fast drop in the first couple of weeks, I am now averaging about 2-3lb per week, but thats still ok.
BG = averaging around 4.5 to 6.6. I test about 2 or 3 times per week, not every day, and always in the morning.
Waist measurement = down 5" (12.5cm) and I have now found some old clothes that fit me, as my other normal clothes are now all too big!
BP is now relatively stable.
Am I hungry? no, not really, but I do miss "normal" food. The shakes do seem to be filling/suppress hunger?
Am I struggling? no, not really, not so far.
I am staying positive, and I am still not missing treats (much). If anything, rather than chocolate, or crisps, or cake, I would prefer a nice "proper" meal, rather than a treat.
Still drinking plenty of water, as I think its essential to keep hydrated, and lots of water may, IMHO, also help to suppress appetite.
So slower progress, but its still progress, and the goal is the bigger picture, eg: better overall health, T2D remission, less meds to take, more energy, etc, etc.
I did have a blip last week, I had a bowl of salad, and it tasted SOoooo good! but back on the shakes now.
So.....onwards and lets stay positive, we can do this, nearly half way through.... come on..... 😎

Do you have waist and weight or other targets to keep you focused? They kept me going down to Prof Taylor's magic 15 kg loss and then onwards to 22 kg and his challenge to get back into 32 inch trousers.

Yes, my weight loss target is 85kg, so still 10kg to go, I would be happy with my waist at 36, but 34 would be better, also my BMi needs to get below 25, currently 30. I also want to increase exercise to maybe 30mins per day, currently doing a small workout at 10-12mins per day. Lastly I would love to get my BP down, so I don't need to take BP meds, but not sure if that will ever happen, as I don't think they like taking you off BP meds?

I guess it depends on yr GP and yr circumstances, but in general I don't think HCP's have a problem with dropping BP meds if you're below 120/80 (in most of the world; maybe higher in the UK). Anyway, my GP was happy enough when I got BP down to about 105/65 and decided to drop them.

One caveat is that some BP meds are good for kidneys, which mioght be an issue, depending on how yours are doing.

Hi @pjgtech glad you are still positive and looking at the bigger picture.

Weight loss will always slow down, just a fact of life, yes you could up the exercise you're doing which may give it another kick start.

My target was to get my BMI below 25 and is now 23.5, so my new target is 23

My weight has dropped from 12st 5lbs to 10st 8 1/2lbs and my target is 10st 7lbs so not far to go

My BP was an ave of 126/63 and is now 118/58 which I guess is ok, but a lot better

When my weight plateaued out, I doubled my walking distance and included a slight incline, which did indeed kick start the weight loss, my target was 2lb per week but is running at about 1.8lbs per week which I can live with.

My next blood test is on the 18th Nov so all will be revealed and it will be what it is, but I know I have done the best I can and that's what matters at the end of the day.

Had very low energy today, not sure why.
One of my hobbies is airgun target shooting at a local range.
Got up this morning had a shake, got my gear ready, put it in the car, drove to the range, had my shooting session, (two hours), packed up and drove back home.
When I got home I had a 200 cal TDR snack bar, I also had a couple of nuts (pecans and walnuts) and a couple of grapes, but I just felt like I had really low energy and was very tired all morning.
It was not a hypo, no dizziness, no slurred speech, no vision issues, no nausea, etc, just very tired.
I did not have a good nights sleep last night, so maybe it was just that. But I have been coping well with the very low cal diet, apart from the first week, when I had a couple of similar days when I felt really low energy.
At home now, had a cuppa, and a couple of hours on the sofa, and I feel fine now.
Just one of those things I suppose?
Thinking about it now I should have checked my BG levels, but did not think to do that, [Doh!]

@pjgtech My wife is not diabetic or on a diet, but there are days when she is totally shattered, I guess it's just one of those things as you said.

I felt much the same as you today, but still did my 2 and a half mile walk with an incline on the way back and felt great while walking, which was a bit strange as I thought I would feel sluggish.

We don't eat until 8, but I can guarantee you, I will be in bed by 10

PS, smile, I only lost 1lb this week, very disappointing, but next week is a new week

Well done on your continued progress and stickability @pjgtech

Congrats on hitting the halfway point!

Day 52 (wk8) of the T2D Pathway to Remission (12 wk) program:
Sorry not updated lately.
Weight loss seems fairly constant now and has levelled out, I am now averaging about 2lb per week, and that's fine with me. Slow and steady and all that....
I have now lost 11.9kg (over 26lb) so next target is 2stone!
BG = averaging around 5.57 over the whole period so far.
Waist measurement = now down 6" (15cm). The clothes that I had previously found that used to be too small for me, which I've been wearing for the last month or so....are now all getting too big, so I will need to find some more clothes!
BP is now relatively stable.

I have strayed form the path on occasion and had a couple of small salads, (about once a week), mainly to relieve the boredom of the shakes and to have something to chew on! I'm not going to beat myself up over having a salad every now and again. Its not like I'm sneaking off and binge eating cake/chocolate/crisps, etc, so... But overall I'm still sticking with the TDR shakes.
Still finding it relatively ok, not too hard, as I have got into a good routine.

Still find that I have very low energy, but that's to be expected I suppose on such a low energy diet. (800 cals per day). Any time that I do anything remotely energetic, after about 10-15 minutes, eg: gardening, etc, then I tend to find that I have to have a little sit down, then I'm fine again.
I'm not going overboard with exercise, as again, that quickly tires me out, but am trying to have a good 10-15 minutes every day when I do stretching and aerobic exercise, not too much cardiac.
When I come off the diet and start introducing more normal food and cals count goes back up, I intend to try and get in the gym once a day. Luckily I have a small gym in the garden cabin, eg, exercise bike, rowing machine, small weight bench, small weights, and a punch bag to work out with.

Small little things are also getting better, couple of months before I started the diet, I had a small bit of hard skin on one of my feet, (never ever had this before, so I assume it was due to the diabetes), which then started to slowly go dry and peel off, and despite keeping clean, drying properly, etc, it just would not heal up. Since I started the diet it has slowly healed up and is now pretty much gone.

Onwards and upwards, nearly two thirds done now, so still feeling positive.

@pjgtech
Well done Peter, you are doing incredibly well, not long now until you will have the figure of a first class racing snake.
I must admit, I do admire your resolve and determination

Alan

Terrific progress @pjgtech

Hope you've given yourself a little birthday treat to congratulate yourself on how things have been going. If nothing else you could splurge on some new clothes!

Great to hear your BP is stabilising too. Are you still on meds for that?

Hi thanx, yes I am on Ramapril for my BP, although my BP is not spiking like it used to. It seems to be more stable now, but still not low enough to come off BP meds, but maybe it'll come down a bit more with more weight loss/time, we'll see...
My birthday treat was a half bowl of salad with a blob of Hummus. 😎

Well today I my total weight loss, since starting the TDR is 27lb, so now only 1lb away from losing 2 stone! 🙂

Strange day today, just been thinking about food all day. Not really that hungry and still keeping up with the shakes, but really, really thinking about food. I had a couple of nuts and a couple of grapes, late afternoon, but found it quite difficult keeping on the straight and narrow....
I suppose there will be bad/hard days, I think I've been lucky as I've really not had that many at all since starting the TDR program, so I can't really complain.
Tomorrow is another day though, so onwards and upwards.

Hopefully, not giving in to the food noise will make it dwindle over time. Anyway, that's what happened with me - tho I think the "noise" for me was always a lot less than for many others, and there's no reason why my little anecdote should be useful for you. Whatever, good luck!
