My honeymoon phase

The brain fog is exactly what I experienced when i was wrongly diagnosed Type 2 and had high blood sugars for 9 months. The difference on insulin was profound. I can remember feeling the fog lift. My husband noticed a marked change and said it was like having his wife back. I can see no benefit in feeling like this, i would get an appointment asap with hospital DSN and get sorted on insulin.

I remember having so much energy again! My hubby said something very similar to yours, he couldn't believe the positive change within a few weeks of starting insulin, being misdiagnosed as type 2 very nearly caused my marriage to breakdown. It certainly caused me numerous mental health issues.
I hope adult onset type 1 is getting to be more recognised now, I certainly wouldn't wish anyone to go through what I went through for even a short amount of time.

Totally agree and can relate to all of this. I also remember developing an uncontrollable temper which i had never had and still regret my shouting rages at the children. I thought I was loosing the plot and scared myself but was also so exhausted i couldn't do anything about it. As soon as my blood sugars were back in more normal range, all these symptoms disappeared.

Yes, I used to become extremely emotional when anyone even mentioned diabetes. Thank goodness for insulin eh! I'm glad you're more stable now Steph x

Ok so just back from seeing the diabetes nurse there at my GP's. At first I don't really think she was listening to me properly when I mentioned about going onto insulin. Its almost as if I didn't say it. She looked at my readings over the past week or so and said that she didn't think I should increase my meds any more and to just keep a close eye on it. At this point I then pulled out my long list of problems i've been having physically and mentally and asked would it not be an idea to get onto the insulin now before my job ends to get balanced before i start a new job. Eventually after a bit of coaxing she sent a message to the specialist unit at the hopsital marked urgent for me to see my specialist asap. Hopefully that works!

Sounds like things are heading in the right direction Simon. Hope the appointment comes through quickly for you. Do let us know how you get on.

Good for you, hope the appointment comes to brought asap. Have you thought about the different insulin regimes - you've probably read about them on here - either mixed insulin which you usually take twice a day or Multiple Daily Injections (MDI) also known as basal bolus where you take a background insulin once or twice a day and then a fast acting insulin to cover the carbs you eat. It's a good idea to have thought which suits you before you go. If you have a predictable lifestyle and eat similar things at similar times then some people prefer mixed. I would suggest that most people on here prefer basal bolus as it gives you much more flexibility and more ability to manage your blood sugars. Best of luck and let us know if you have any questions.

I'm so glad you've been referred on Simon :D I really hope the appointment comes through soon.
I never went onto mixed insulin, I went straight to basal/bolus. I work shifts and my daily life isn't predictable at all, so I don't think mixed insulin would work for me, but to be honest I think mixed insulin is outdated and MDI is the way forward. Have a look into the options Simon, so you're ready with even more information before your next appointment.
Keep us updated x

That's good news, wishing you all the best and hoping you feel much better soon.

The only advantage I had, being on the wrong regime was I lost a hell of a lot of weight from 18 and 1/2 stone to 10 stone 2lbs. I have since recovered and am 11 stone 12lb (old school me) I was incorrectly diagnosed for 6 years and yes foggy and peeing a lot and cold legs and loss of strength in arms and legs. 1 DKA later and all is well (very luckily got to hospital with 5 mins to spare). You should be on insulin if you can't get control of your sugars and metformin is used to stop the liver make glucose, gliclazide is used to help your cells use your own insulin to better mop up glucose, Dapaglaflosin is given to get you to pee out excess sugar, and finally clotrimazole is used to clear up the many fungal infections brought on by peeing out all of your sugars. Insulin does away with all of that as long as you get to grips with it. (I can't promise you will not need the clotrimazole, but i think it will be used way less often)

I'm glad you pushed to get referred Simon. Hope the wait isn't too long.
